Abortion foes criticize Scott Walker over campaign spokeswoman

Alleigh Marre has supported Planned Parenthood, abortion rights

Gov. Scott Walker is quickly learning there may be a political litmus test for top campaign staff.

Walker — a self-described "100% pro-life" politician — is drawing sharp criticism from some of his strongest anti-abortion allies after it was discovered this week that his newly hired campaign spokeswoman has expressed support for Planned Parenthood and abortion rights in the past.

"Obviously, naturally, that's a problem," said Matt Sande, legislative director for Pro-Life Wisconsin, which endorsed Walker in 2010 election and his recall contest. "I think he needs a new spokeswoman, immediately."

Walker's campaign brought on Alleigh Marre, 25, last month as the press secretary for his high-stakes re-election effort. Marre had previously worked for the National Republican Congressional Committee and former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, a Massachusetts Republican who is an abortion-rights advocate.

On her now-defunct blog, Marre wrote a piece in defense of Planned Parenthood after the GOP-backed U.S. House of Representatives voted to end funding for the organization.

"I'm a Republican, and I support Planned Parenthood, a woman's right to choose, access to STD testing, birth control, etc.," Marre wrote Sept. 21, 2011. "Did I mention I'm a Republican?"

Marre didn't answer questions Wednesday regarding the blog post, her current position on abortion or her disclosure of any of this information to Walker before he hired her last month.

Instead, Walker's campaign issued two statements that all but confirmed Marre's pro-choice position.

"America is a great country where people can have differing points of view on various issues," said Tom Evenson, Walker's campaign communications director.

Later, Evenson supplemented that statement with this: "Governor Walker welcomes people with differing opinions in his campaign and his administration. Throughout his career he has always been pro-life and

At least Walker and Perry have actually shut down Planned Parenthood offices which is something a lot of politicians can't say.

frankly, i would go for the best person for the job, depending on what the job is... if i needed a surgeon, i would want the best—no matter his political views... if i needed a lawyer, i would go for the best i could buy—i do not care to whom or what he donates... (or her/she)...

Walker always struck me as a one-act show. Just active on the economy - a big issue to be sure, but the way to improve the economy is to reduce government and strengthen Constitutional Freedoms and basic human rights.

Who cares what she thinks? Does part of the job involve abortions? Don’t think so.

She has to walk the walk to be with Walker. He is the boss.

If she doesn’t represent HIS VIEWS then she ought to be fired.

I guarantee you, my boss and I do not agree on everything. But I do my job well, and we don’t have a problem.

"I'm a GOP-E, and I support Planned Parenthood abortuary big business, a woman's right to choose to kill her child, access to STD testing, birth control, etc. at taxpayer expense" Marre wrote Sept. 21, 2011. "Did I mention I'm a GOP-E and I'll do everything in my power to influence Scott Walker to become more feticidal?"
