I never could understand what his defense was. He made donations through others to get around the limits. He never denied that. His whole defense was that he was an Obama critic and was being persecuted. I don’t have much sympathy for that argument.

Not his smartest move. But I bought 2016 anyways, and showed it to a few folks.

Did not John Edwards get in trouble for the same reason, but it was reduced to minor or were treated as minor charges because he is a Dem?

I actually don’t know about that one. D’Souza had to know he was going to be a huge target, though.

I’m sure Dems give other Dems a lotta breaks.

The law is unconstitutional. I don’t care how much he gave, and it is true that this is political selective enforcement. Obamalini is just the face of an enormous criminal enterprise that violates any law it finds inconvenient with impunity.

When are conservatives going to acknowledge that the entire federal government is lawless and withhold compliance in every way possible?

His claim was that he was charged with far more serious violations of the law than 0bama supporters who engaged in the very same thing:

“It’s a remarkably selective prosecution, considering Obama raised millions of dollars under similar circumstances and donors merely faced civil fines while D’Souza is charged with felony violation of federal law,” Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas told The Hollywood Reporter in February.”

Obama took foreign contribs through his web site that only needed a Credit Card number and you could even use a pre-paid Credit Card to donate creating a way to pay cash for pre-paid Credit cards then donate back effectively bypassing any “pesky election laws” that the dims love to use as a tool against their opponents..

Romney’s site almost needed enough info to sign up for obama care to contribute....

[ I actually don’t know about that one. D’Souza had to know he was going to be a huge target, though. ]

His film was contribution enough, he didn’t need to give any more...

He wanted to help out even more and only in american can one get penalized for doing what one thinks is right...

At least ALL of Dinesh’s money came from his own effort, and not some commie chinese donor like Old Hag Cankles McGee otherwise know as Hillary Cinton....

Who squealed on Dinesh? His ex-wife? I can’t see how the Federales found out unless someone ratted him out. I am sure Democrats do this all the time.

Remember how the Obama campaign has twice 2018-2012 set up a donation site that does no checking where the gift card or credit card donation is coming from. Foreigners cannot contribute to US campaigns but there was no Obama-site blocking of foreign IP addresses. The donation software has this ability but was used. What sleaze. Never prosecuted of course!
Millions and million came in this way. I could buy a thousand $100 gift cards and contribute this way. Just use a mix of computers such as public computers and Starbucks wifi, Panera wifi and so on

Or one computer, a proxy service, and a few scripts.

Your way is better and faster. The scripts automate the donation process? I could pay a high school kid to write such a script?

I betcha the wife’s divorce lawyer scowering bank account noted 10k transaction’s.asked party to explain and couldn’t lie to an officer of the court..

On the other hand the TREASURY could have asked documentation on 10k transaction which is automatically flagged.Voila can’t lie to Government so DONORS fess up reluctantly..

Should have given them 10k in Cash.

Right after they grant illegals amnesty and are never able to elect another national candidate, and they begin to lose state house after state house.

There is something to be said for the fact that you are being picked on, if others flagrantly violate a law and you are flagged.

But I’m seriously disappointed in his decision because the law he was accused under is unconstitutional, and the present composition of SCOTUS should be given a chance to say so.

All regulation of campaign contributions and spending is unconstitutional, because the First Amendment explicitly covers speech about religion, and explicitly covers speech about politics (e.g., “peaceable assembly and petition for redress of grievances”), and nobody has suggested that it doesn’t cover factual information. “Campaign Finance Reform” is predicated on the existence of a bright line between news reporting and political opinion/advocacy. Simply on the word of the members of the associated press. And that is humbug, there is no evidence for it and plenty of evidence to the contrary (which is easy to see if you restrict your attention to history rather than getting into the fog of current events).

Justice Kennedy, who is now normally the swing vote, was part of the 4-vote minority in the McConnell v. FEC decision which ratified McCain-Feingold. If D’Sousa had the staying power, he should have claimed that the law was invalid and taken it up to SCOTUS, where IMHO he would have prevailed.

The limits are unconstitutional. SCOTUS now says so.

I’m with you. I like the guy a lot, but laws are laws, and if you break them you may get caught, especially if it’s that easy to find out, and you don’t support this bunch.
