TLANTA Minneapolis has been awarded the 2018 Super Bowl by NFL owners.
The owners rewarded the Vikings for arranging to build a new stadium on the site of the old Metrodome by choosing Minneapolis over New Orleans and Indianapolis.
The big game will be staged in the Twin Cities for the second time. It was there in 1992, when Washington beat Buffalo.
Minneapolis' new $1 billion stadium is scheduled to open in 2016.

and there is much wailing in New Orleans as I speak.
Good for Minneapolis.
At least we are assured that home field advantage is unlikely to be an issue.
They don’t hold it in America any more?
I thought they were through with cold-weather Superbowls?
We will never make it to a superbowl so we might as well host one.
yes. I’m assuming the only way the Vikings are there are as spectators.
background on funding, FWIW.
The “e-pull tabs” have been a massive failure.
Yup, nice to see the Vikes will be connected to the Super Bowl (in a way).
if you like your nose, you can keep it.
They’ll hold it in a cold-weather city if the stadium has a retractable or closed roof. The 2014 Super Bowl, in East Rutherford, NJ, was apparently a waiver of the 50 degree average rule.
Vikings went to four Super Bowls while they played at The Met.
None ever since they moved indoors...Coincidence? I think not.
Anyone who builds a new stadium gets one.
It’s legal extortion.
Which means Green Bay will never get one.
Plus they don’t have enough hotels.
Guess LA will get it when the Sams move back to LA from St Louis.
The first Halal Super Bowl?
At least unlike this past Super Bowl, there won’t be a threat of inclement weather turning the game into a potential fiasco, since the stadium itself and much of the area surrounding the stadium are all covered and climate controlled. And the host committee—learning from the very successful Super Bowl at Indianapolis—will try to keep all activities as close to the stadium as possible to minimize weather effects on Super Bowl-related activities during Super Bowl Week.
Super Bowl in Dallas was during an ice storm.
It’s the only way Viking fans will ever see a Super Bowl.
Yes but will Viking fans be able to attend the game? And I am not kidding....
If we can’t win one, we might as well host one;)
Not unless they’re corporate bigshots.
Photo didn’t display properly, is at this link:
Sorry we’re not American enough for you wonderful Texans.
Bud Grant turned 87 today.
And they’re usually built with taxpayer money.
From what I can find, this is the sixth game in Monday Night Football history. The sharpness in quality is impressive. Keith Jackson did PxP.
“...we often wonder what it must be like to live above the Arctic Circle in a place like Green Bay, with its permafrost and 10-month winters, where the first snow starts falling in mid-August. ;-)”
Green Bay, Canada?
Interesting how the Canadian guy in the YouTube video segued into a reference to Rocky & Bullwinkle, who hail from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota (which could be in Canada, but isn’t. Minnesota, that is.) ;-)
Bud’s still around!
God bless the old gentleman!
It was...and it was a total mess.
We just don’t have the equipment to keep up with an ice storm. Maybe Minneapolis does...but not Dallas.
Sigh...Oh Lord, It’s hard to be humble. ;)
No, real Viking fans will not be able to attend this Super Bowl.
The NFL controls ticket distribution for Super Bowls. They put a relatively small percentage out for public sale, or to be distributed by the host team. A few thousand locals may be able to buy tickets to the game. But not many. You won’t have 70,000 local Minnesotans there.
Frostbite Falls is probably close to International Falls which is very close to the border of Canada. Easy to get mixed up!
They're all claming how much money it's going to bring “the state”. As if people in Biwabik and Red Wing are somehow going to find themselves in the money-this is strictly pork for Minneapolis. Millionaire Dayton scratching the back of his billionaire pal Ziggy.
I went to a Vikings game. Once. At Met Stadium.
Who wants to watch a gay bowl? Not me. NFL is gone from my home.
Governor Mark Dayton was going to win anyway because after all, he’s a native son of the state and belongs the family that founded Target Corporation. It’s hard not to support a native son of that state....
Unlike New Orleans who thinks the Superbowl should be there EVERY year cause of Katrina?
