Same-Sex Marriage Is Now Legal in All of Northeastern U.S. (Now that Pennsylvania went pink)
National Journal ^ | May 20, 2014 | Brian Resnick

Posted on 05/20/2014 8:30:20 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

With a federal judge declaring a Pennsylvania ban on gay marriage unconstitutional on Tuesday afternoon, every state in the Northeastern corner of the country—Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and now Pennsylvania—has legalized same-sex marriage.

Judge John Jones invoked the 14th Amendment to invalidate a 1996 Pennsylvania law that defined marriage as between a man and a woman. Like many of the other judicial decisions bringing down state marriage bans, this one framed the issue as a matter of civil rights.

Jones wrote:

In future generations the label same-sex marriage will be abandoned, to be replaced simply by marriage. We are better people than what these laws represent, and it is time to discard them into the ash heap of history.

A judge in Oregon issued a similar ruling just the day prior.

Pennsylvania State Attorney General Kathleen Kane, a Democrat, refused to defend the law when it came to the court, but Republican Gov. Tom Corbett appointed a defense. Now, Time reports Corbett is likely to appeal the ruling. Jones is known as a political moderate (who according to the Washington Post was recommended by Rick Santorum), but in the past has sided against a mandate to have intelligent design taught in Pennsylvania schools.

The 19 states (in addition to the District of Columbia) with same-sex marriage now account for 44 percent of the U.S. population, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

Judges who are supposed to uphold the law are, instead, making new law that never existed.

There is still no such thing as gay marriage.

All this pervert “marriage” and yet the bath houses flourish. One might almost suspect that they’re not keeping their “marriage” vows.

Wow. What arrogance.

Legal? B/S. Judges are not legislators.

This degenerate POS judge refers to the law he tyrannically tossed away as belonging in the ash-heap. This bastard spit in the face of the voters, the Constitution, and the rule of law. To promote perversion, and destroy all that is decent and holy.

He’s wrong. HE belongs in the ash-heap. His rotting carcass belongs there. He deserves the fate of all tyrants.

Same-sex marriage has been made legal, but by activist judges wrongly acting outside the framework of the Constitution.

Isn’t lavender the appropriate color? Pink is already taken by an actual DNA-based sex/gender.

I think brown is a more appropriate color.

Slavery was perhaps the worse thing this country could have allowed, yet it took a Civil War and constitutional amendments to end it.

If the will of the people could so easily be ignored, why didn’t the courts simply rule “slavery” was unconstitutional?

The left are playing the end game of their plan to transform this nation into a socialist utopia. They believe since they can silence critics (by use of the media or the law) that they won.

I really think they should study history a little more and see what happens when a ruling elite shuts off all forms of opinions that they (the ruling elite) do not agree with.

I liken it to having the safety valve on a pressure cooker disabled. There is no way for the buildup of pressure to go, eventually there is an explosion.

Now it may be possible that this is what they (the ruling elite want), the better to go after those they could not shut down otherwise.

I still have faith in the American people and the voting booth. Only time will tell if my faith is deserved or not.

The other day someone on yahoo told me that overturning laws is EXACTLY what judges are supposed to do. That kind of thinking is sliding us down the slope.

all state restrictions regarding marriage are now in legal jeopardy. Bigamy, incest can’t wait for those plantiffs to challenge that restriction!!

This is exactly the case. What right does a state have to deny the ability of a billionaire father marrying his grandson in order to avoid inheritance taxes.

This is going to happen as well as other forms of perversion including incest, bigamy, polygamy, polyamory, and ephebiphilia and pedophilia. there are no restraints against any for of coupling to get the legal benefits of marriage. We will be required to accept it as it is their deeply held personal desires.

It’s pretty clear in Oregon that the federal district court judge was appointed by Obama a year ago for his recent ruling.
The voters be damned. The judge is homosexual, he, Obama and the Democrats want homosexual marriage, so the popular law (”democracy”) is overturned by the Democrats by judicial fiat.
And good luck with ‘federalism’: moving to or remaining in a state that adheres to the six thousand year old definition of “marriage”—if you have federal judges in your state!
It’s banana republic law.

"Only 4 states passed Gay marriage by the voters....the others are fraud."

Thank you for that note napscoordinator. And 4 states is a far cry from the 3/4 state supermajority required by the Constitution's Article V to ratify an amendment to the Constitution which would expressly protect something like gay marriage.

“Only 4 states passed Gay marriage by the voters....the others are fraud.”

That is quite suspect as there may have been voter fraud or at the very least those who would gain something from the approval of gay marriage, were able to vote themselves a special right.

When in our history have a certain group been able to go to the polls and vote themselves a special right?
