Labor unions are beseeching senators to pass legislation that would approve the Keystone XL pipeline by circumventing a government review process that threatens to stretch into 2015.
In a letter to senators today, five unions, the National Association of Manufacturers and the American Petroleum Institute say the bill is essential to free the pipeline from political limbo.
After nearly six years of countless polls and five exhaustive federal reviews stating the pipeline is safe to build and will create thousands of jobs, we have unfortunately seen political rhetoric and gamesmanship take precedence over policy and leadership, the groups say.
The letter comes as conservationists send their own entreaty to Hillary Clinton, asking the former Secretary of State to join their crusade against Keystone XL. It also is delivered to Capitol Hill shortly after a Senate stalemate on an energy efficiency bill also killed a plan to bring the pro-Keystone legislation to a vote.
The State Department last month indefinitely delayed a final assessment of whether the proposed border-crossing pipeline is in the national interest, so a legal battle could play out in Nebraska.
But API, NAM and the labor unions say theres no time to wait. The delay has once again jeopardized the ability of our construction workers to remain in the middle class by reducing opportunities for well-paying jobs, the groups said. We need our leaders to lead, put partisan politics aside and stand up for the will of the people.
Unions represented on the letter include the Laborers International Union of North America; the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; North Americas Building Trades Unions; the International Union of Operating Engineers; and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
Second, and not as important as your young lady may the lame-stream be paying attention on the Keystone and may the Keystone be built.
So what? they’ll still vote Dem.
Forever too scared to leave the plantation.
Thank you and God Bless you for that. She should have a full recovery.
Got to give Obama credit , when he is bought he stays bought regardless of pressure
God Bless you and yours, thackney. Having daughters (two of them) I know your thoughts. May the healing be complete.
What’s really funny about this is, the unions are now pushing for the pipeline to be built, yet Ben Sasse’s Democrat opponent in the upcoming Nebraska Senatorial election is the Omaha lawyer who has led the fight AGAINST the Keystone pipeline.
Sasse shouldn’t have any trouble winning but the campaign might overstress the suppliers of popcorn.
Unions have pushed for it since the beginning. They just don’t make a lot of media coverage about it.
I know it would never happen, but I think it would be beyond awesome if Keystone was approved, and didn’t use a single hour of union labor.
For the right amount of money reid can make it happen. The most corrupt crook in the senate will always sell his office for the right price.
Keystone Pipeline Clogged by Massive Turd!
The Solar thing just got a little more interesting...
REALLY! The Tonopah Solar Company in Harry Reid's Nevada is getting a $737 million loan from Obama's D.O.E.
The Project will produce a 110 Megawatt Power System, and employs l45 Permanent Workers.
That's costing us just $16 million per Job.
