Pelosi names Dems to Benghazi panel
The Hill ^ | May 21, 2014 | Erik Wasson and Mike Lillis

Posted on 05/21/2014 11:28:19 AM PDT by jazusamo

House Democrats will participate in the new select committee on Benghazi, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday, naming five members of her caucus to serve on the panel.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), the top Democrat on the House Oversight and a veteran of previous Benghazi investigations, will serve as ranking member on the panel, which will be led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.). The other members are Reps. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), who serves as ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee; Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who serves on the spending panel overseeing the State Department budget; Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), who sits on the Ways and Means subcommittee on oversight and veterans; and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who also serves on the Oversight Committee.

Pelosi met briefly with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to discuss the Benghazi panel on Tuesday afternoon. Staff members were continuing talks on how the panel would work Wednesday morning.

The two parties have been at odds over the rules governing the select committee, with Democrats calling for equal authority when it comes to subpoena power, accessing documents and deposing witnesses.

The panel is charged with getting to the bottom of the attacks in September 2012 on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.

Many Democrats, notably Assistant Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.), have called for a boycott of the panel for fear that their participation will legitimize a process they've deemed a political witch hunt designed to embarrass President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

A separate group of Democrats has urged party leaders to get on board, if only so they can access the documents and witnesses that emerge during the probe and defend the administration from what would otherwise be a one-sided investigation.

Boehner earlier this month named seven Republicans to the select committee.

Congressman Gowdy can handle Elijah's antics.

Yep. He’s handled plenty of buttholes in court.
I’m disappointed Alan Grayson didn’t make the cut.
Would love to see TG cut him off at the knees.

Elijah is a showboat who likes to pontificate about nothing-he will need to be reminded of the rules early on...

Speaking of rules. Gowdy should just say were using standard judicial rules. His panel would understand. The Ds would be clueless

It would have been a hoot if Pelosi would have appointed Grayson, she’s a dim bulb but she’s not that stupid. :)

Three from the Left coast, one from Leftist Maryland and one from Leftist Illinois. Nazi Pelosi sure did stack the deck with those picks. Her motives are so transparent.

Either that, or they’d ignore what he said. I didn’t check to see how many of the Ds are attorneys, but I know that there are several on Gowdy’s team.

“... for fear that their participation will legitimize a process they’ve deemed a political witch hunt designed to embarrass President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.” Yes, it is embarrassing to the democrip criminal enterprise when their fecklessness is exposed. They would rather all thirty or forty in Benghazi had been slaughtered by the regime’s allies, the terrorists of the brother hood, than expose the abject incompetence and aiding and abetting America’s enemies, friends of democrat rule.

You know the ambassador who was murdered was from Chicago…(I see a D-Ill House member on the committee) was GAY. I read about him, a decent enough person from a very loving family who sounds like he was naive in the extreme, because he was openly homosexual and sent to gay-hating, Islamic *Libya*--it's like he was set up to be abused and murdered.

It was stupid to send an openly homosexual man, a young and probably unworldly sort, who thinks he can spread his brand of tolerance around.

That's one question I'd like to hear the DemRat from Illinois address.

Did a quick check:

Smith and Schiff have law degrees and each was a prosecutor for a year or so.

Sanchez has a law degree and specialized in labor law.

Duckworth’s father was a Marine and she joined the Army, became a helicopter pilot, lost a leg in the Iraq war.

Duckworth is there so Dems can play the Victims Meme, so Dems Media allies can scream, “THOSE MEANY REPUBLICANS ATTACKED A HANDICAPPED VETEREAN!!!”

This is all designed to divert TV coverage away from the actual truth, to a “politics as Usual meme that can be ignored.

This is completely transparent...

I couldn’t believe they’d send a gay Ambassador to an Islamic country, wondered about that from the beginning of this mess. There’s so many other countries he could have gone to that wouldn’t have made a difference.

I keep flashing back to the Senate hearings to flush out Clinton’s illegal transfer of satellite guidance systems technology to Chicoms in exchange for campaign donations.

We had the goods on them, but John Glenn was designated the hatchet man. Glenn quibbled, bitched and moaned to trash, blur and slant everything, making it total chaos and fluster cluck.

His pay-off? Got a trip on Space Shuttle so he could set a record for oldest person ever aboard.

I guess John Glenn wasn't available this time...
