House Democrats will participate in the new select committee on Benghazi, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday, naming five members of her caucus to serve on the panel.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), the top Democrat on the House Oversight and a veteran of previous Benghazi investigations, will serve as ranking member on the panel, which will be led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.). The other members are Reps. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), who serves as ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee; Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who serves on the spending panel overseeing the State Department budget; Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), who sits on the Ways and Means subcommittee on oversight and veterans; and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), who also serves on the Oversight Committee.
Pelosi met briefly with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to discuss the Benghazi panel on Tuesday afternoon. Staff members were continuing talks on how the panel would work Wednesday morning.
The two parties have been at odds over the rules governing the select committee, with Democrats calling for equal authority when it comes to subpoena power, accessing documents and deposing witnesses.
The panel is charged with getting to the bottom of the attacks in September 2012 on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.
Many Democrats, notably Assistant Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.), have called for a boycott of the panel for fear that their participation will legitimize a process they've deemed a political witch hunt designed to embarrass President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
A separate group of Democrats has urged party leaders to get on board, if only so they can access the documents and witnesses that emerge during the probe and defend the administration from what would otherwise be a one-sided investigation.
Boehner earlier this month named seven Republicans to the select committee.
I watched him when Pelosi made her announcement today. He looks worn out, I think you’re right about him running out of meltdowns. HA! Couldn’t happen to better little yes man. B^)

We had the goods on them, but John Glenn was designated the hatchet man. Glenn quibbled, bitched and moaned to trash, blur and slant everything, making it total chaos and fluster cluck.
His pay-off? Got a trip on Space Shuttle so he could set a record for oldest person ever aboard.

Duckworth’s on there for her military bona fides. They’re taking it seriously and their scared.

When will these hearings start? I can’t wait to see what kind of stuff comes out.

Yep, I think the dems are scared to death of this. Gowdy knows he has the goods or he wouldn’t be doing this. He’s too smart for that.
