Climate change endangers historic US landmarks

Washington (AFP) - Climate change and sea level rise are threatening historic US landmarks, from the Statue of Liberty to NASA's coastal rocket launch sites, and the nation needs to prepare, scientists said.

"The range and scale of impacts are alarming," said the report by the Union of Concerned Scientists that listed more than two dozen landmarks endangered by wildfires, coastal erosion and flooding -- events scientists say are being made worse by global warming.

They include the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in New York Harbor, which was the entry point for 14 million immigrants from 1886 to 1924.

Sea level has risen 12 inches (30 centimeters) around New York City over the past century, the report said.

Then came Hurricane Sandy in 2012, which flooded most of Liberty Island and all of Ellis Island, destroying most of their infrastructure and forcing their closure for months.

New York is now rebuilding electrical systems on the islands "as much as 20 feet above sea level and designing the heating and air conditioning systems to withstand flooding," the report said.

Other sites at risk include the first permanent British colony in North America at Jamestown Island in Virginia, and historic Charleston, South Carolina.

"The voices of our ancestors speak to us from these places," said Alan Spears, historian and director of cultural resources at the National Parks Conservation Association.

And they're not happy with what we've done.

Bull. Even wikipedia puts the rise at half that. Unless NYC is special, and all the seawater congregates there.

They'll keep trying to find something that scares people and gets them on the bandwagon.

When they find a way to show the Viagra supply is threatened by Global Warming the majority will go along with whatever it takes to save us.

False.

Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud

Sea levels began to rise 18k years ago at the end of the last glacial period. They have risen about 135 meters since then which is an average of 7.5 millimeters per year. That is an average of 750 mm per century (29.5 inches) which is far more than the average over the last century.

From 1880 to 2000 sea level rose about 20 cm or just under 8 inches. Far far less than the nearly 30 inches per century average over the last 18,000 years.

Hysterics are the oligarchs' methodology, to herd the dumbed down people of the world, especially in Amerika. How many inches will the seas rise over the next two hundred years? ... less than a handful, and that is if the most dire fantasy based predictions somehow magically come true.. But ANY effect from storms, etc is now twisted my the enemy, the media, to serve the great lie which has been fashioned to enrich the oligarchs and garner even more enslavement of the populations of the globe. Mgic Thinking rules humanity now ...

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Anyone, and I’m talking about any Tom, Dick or Harry, can write for Yahoo! News!

Yahoo pays its writers quarters of cents for every hit their stories get.

Yahoo is not a credible news site.
