Reid Remarks On Republican Obstruction
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ^ | May 21, 2014 | U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

“My Republican colleagues have exerted so much effort to cause nothing to get done, but they prefer it that way. They practically break their backs ensuring that nothing happens here on the Senate floor.”

“Last week was another great example of Republicans’ fruitless hard work. Republicans blocked debate on a bill that would reinstate important, but expired, tax provisions – legislation that extends tax cuts and helps countless Americans as they recover from the recession.”

“We don’t need to waste any more of the Senate’s hard work on obstruction.  Let’s get this tax extenders bill passed, and give American families and businesses a fair shot at prosperity.”

Washington, DC – Nevada Senator Harry Reid spoke on the Senate floor regarding Republicans’ continued obstruction of legislation that will give American families a fair shot at prosperity. Below are his remarks as prepared for delivery:

Being a United States Senator is hard work if you’re doing it right. It’s not uncommon for Senators to go without sleep to squeeze a bit more committee work into their day, or make a few extra calls back to the state. I’ve seen Members of this body work themselves into exhaustion for their constituents. But I confess, until recently, I’d never seen Senators work so hard to do so little.  My Republican colleagues have exerted so much effort to cause nothing to get done, but they prefer it that way. They practically break their backs ensuring that nothing happens here on the Senate floor.

Last week was another great example of Republicans’ fruitless hard work. Republicans blocked debate on a bill that would reinstate important, but expired, tax provisions – legislation that extends tax cuts and helps countless Americans as they recover from the recession. This bill extends current tax provisions that have bolstered students and teachers, workers and employers, American families and businesses, saving money and growing our economy. Stunningly, some of the very Senate Republicans who developed and supported this package of tax cuts in the Senate Finance Committee actually helped filibuster the bill. The primary Republican who negotiated the extension of these tax cuts ultimately voted against them. You heard that right – Republicans Senators are voting against their own legislation. And for what? What have Senate Republicans accomplished, aside from bringing unnecessary anxiety to the American economy?

Here in my hand I have a letter signed by 152 associations, non-profits organizations, and coalitions, urging the Senate to pass these tax cuts as soon as possible. Why? Because, as stated in this letter, not extending these tax provisions “injects instability and uncertainty into the economy.” Many of these signatories are conservative organizations, like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Manufacturers – Republican organizations telling Senate Republicans to get their act together.  Still, Senate Republicans continue to obstruct. They’ve broken my legislative heart so many times.

Instead of helping our economy, Senate Republicans have thrown themselves in front of this bill and ground it to a halt. What have my Republican colleagues achieved by stalling the work of the Senate? Nothing, aside from wasted time.  Wasted time often seems to be the fruit of Senate Republicans’ labors. We don’t need to waste any more of the Senate’s hard work on obstruction.  Let’s get this tax extenders bill passed, and give American families and businesses a fair shot at prosperity. I know my Republican colleagues support it, so they should vote for it. Let’s get the Senate back on track.

Well, thank goodness they get 6 weeks vacation plus the whole month of August off, with pay.

As their employer,I'm concerned about their health,as harry is,I suggest term limits so they aren't exhausting themselves for more than 12 years.

To quote harry,
"Let’s get the Senate back on track".

This from the party that ruined the economy with Obamacare, the stimulus, the bailouts, the Solyndras, Cash for Clunkers, food stamps, welfare, SSDI, the Cat Food commission, cutting Medicare and 1,000 other things?

Who's the obstructionist? Think again, Harry.

Senator Harry Reid Supports Giving Illegal Aliens Tax Credits for Kids Not Even Living in US (won't move bill to ban)
Townhall.com | October 30, 2013 | Mike Shedlock / FR Posted by Kaslin

US Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Texas, wants to end the practice of giving illegal immigrants tax credits for kids, but U.S. Sen.

Harry Reid, D-Nev., won’t let the House-approved measure H.R. 556 through the Senate. "The System is Working Fine" says Senator Harry Reid, even though the Joint Committee on Taxation calculates that enactment of H.R. 556 would save taxpayers $24.4 billion over the next decade.

The House of Representatives repeatedly has passed an IRS bill that could save U.S. taxpayers up to $24.4 billion over the next 10 years — but Harry Reid’s Democratic Senate will not hear it.

The Refundable Child Tax Credit Eligibility Verification Reform Act, or H.R. 556, would require tax filers to provide Social Security numbers to claim child tax credits.

Currently, the IRS allows undocumented residents to collect the $1,000 credits for dependents not even living in the country.

Watchdog reported that illegal immigrants received $4.2 billion from the tax agency in just one year. “My bill (targets) billions of dollars in waste, fraud and abuse. Instead of hitting up taxpayers for even more taxes, Washington needs to go after these billions of dollars,” said Rep. Johnson, R-Texas.

Though the GOP-controlled House has passed Johnson’s measure three times, Senate Majority Leader Reid, D-Nev., refuses to allow the bill to come up for a vote in the Senate chamber.

“The IRS has been doling out the credit to tax filers claiming children who do not even live in the country,” Johnson charged.

Reid obstructs bill protecting Americans from ID theft.

Republican Sen Charles Grassley tried to assist Americans w/ an amendment to the Senate amnesty bill:

"Congress should not thumb its nose at the millions of Americans who are victims of identity theft, often perpetrated by an undocumented person who steals Social Security numbers to get jobs, govt benefits, driver's licenses and more. This amendment will simply require the person applying for RPI status to disclose any previously used Social Security numbers," said Grassley. "It's the first step to helping clean up the mess that's been created for the victim of identity theft.

The amendment---which went nowhere---also authorized certain federal agencies, upon receipt of this information, to notify individuals who were the victims."

How can any Democrat call “Obstructionism” ??? They have gotten everything they want. What “gains” have Republicans in particular and Conservatives in general made in the last 6 years? There is no obstructionism. Another LIE!!! Obamacare proves it!!!

Reid is talking more and more like a loser, blaming others for his utter failure. The Republicans are doing the right thing to keep the leftists from totally destroying the economy and the culture of this country. Satan loves Reid!

The people of this country do not want chaos, nor do they want anything the Democrats force upon them against their will.
