Posted on 05/21/2014 7:59:49 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement
Amid a surge of public opinion in favor of gay rights in the U.S., the WNBA is launching a campaign to market the league to the LGBT community, becoming the first pro sports league to specifically recruit gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender fans to its games.
With the marketing campaign, the WNBA is capitalizing on what it has known for years: The community makes up a significant portion of its fan base. The difference now is that the league is talking about it publicly and making it a deliberate part of its marketing strategy.
The launch of the effort coincides with a surge of political and legal advances for the gay-rights movement in the U.S., and shifting public opinion behind many of those advances.

Lesbians in the WNBA? Who knew?
The WNBA has a fan base? Who knew?
Do they need to?
What you said.
Is NASCAR next? LOL
This is not new. Not even. I have been around gay women for years, working with as many as 6 at one time. They always had tickets to give away.
adios, women basketballers.
In other words, affirmative action for professional sports. Its just lowering the bar so the less athletic will be able to compete professionally.
I thought that was the intent of the WNBA.
The end is closer and closer than we thought. See you on the other side!
Hell in a hand basket.
Once the sugar-rush of frantic MSM coverage dies out, the only effect will be to push the league further into obscurity.
So if it’s ok for the wnba to openly market to gays, can another sports league openly market to straights? And mention it in their ads? Somehow, I doubt it....
Women have their own professional basketball league? What will they think of next?
The way the NFL is going you are going to be given lots of tickets to football games by your homosexual co-workers.
Finding $5 is ahead 81-19.
It should say "WNBA to Market to Non-LGBT Community".
> In other words, affirmative action for professional sports. Its just lowering the bar so the less athletic will be able to compete professionally.
My bad. Thought they meant the athletes there for a sec. That’s probably next tho
I was at a WNBA game one time - believe me, the action was all in the stands.
The wnba is subsidized by the nba. They can’t pay their bills as it is.
They are going to ....start?
In other news, the NRA is going to start marketing to conservatives
I don’t know where you got that meme, but I LOVE it!
I figured they’ve already been doing this for years.
Are male reporters allowed in WNBA dressing rooms? Equal access. ESPN, to this day, often mentions how female reporters go inside mens’ dressing rooms.
Yeah, no kidding.
Its the WNBA..aren’t the players already lesbos..I watched a WNBA game once..hitting yourself against the wall was more entertaining..both teams combined couldn’t score 60 points
The WNBA- Where you can really lick your opponent.
Why is Asspress twenty years late reporting this?
I wonder if coming out to the game will take on new meaning....
Thanks for the info. I did not know that, but I heard LeBron will go on strike if
Empty seats? Too politically correct to fail?
Don’t be a bigot....
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that women’s basketball pretty much sucks. Unless you know someone who is playing, there is no reason to watch it.
They’ve been doing this for years haven’t they? Why is it news now?
Several years ago the Women’s Basketball Coach of Penn State University, Rene Portland, was run out of a job because she would not recruit gay players. Look what happened after she left!
Rene was a decent lady. I heard parents say that their daughters felt safe on her team. But you know how the liberals are a corps of intolerant people claiming they’re tolerant as they spread their societal poison.
If anyone knows how to get hold of Rene, please FRMail me.
Yes, except for the trannys amongst them.
I dunno. Billy did a good job with the Detroit women. I did not go to a game but was mildly interested. Those women were good.
I predict one of the major pro sports leagues will have a homosexual appreciation day and all players will be forced to wear a rainbow (or some other representation) on their jerseys. But I wouldn’t be too shocked if the WNBA does it and gets publicity from networks that normally don’t cover the league.
I recall when this was an issue on the LPGA.
Boy, is that a dumb, shortsighted business move. Now that this campaign has been declared, most other people will think twice before attending games for fear people might think they are into homosexual behaviors. Won’t it be just ducky when the entire audience will be a sight the rest of the population would rather not be part of. The silly owners are stigmatizing all those nice stadiums.
Will they advertise then at the LPGA events?
The US slips further down the ladder to hell. Can you smell sulfur?
I was looking for a clever way to say it. lol Perfect.
