White House to Health Insurers: Don’t raise rates ahead of elections, we’ll get taxpayers to pay...

Healthcare rates are going up for many people in 2015, and the White House is afraid that people will be unhappy about this. So unhappy that Democrats might be punished at the polls. But if health insurers keep their rates artificially low through the elections new rules unveiled recently by the administration will make sure the giant insurance companies won’t lose any money.

The taxpayers however will.

(From The LA Times)

The Obama administration has quietly adjusted key provisions of its signature healthcare law to potentially make billions of additional taxpayer dollars available to the insurance industry if companies providing coverage through the Affordable Care Act lose money.

The move was buried in hundreds of pages of new regulations issued late last week. It comes as part of an intensive administration effort to hold down premium increases for next year, a top priority for the White House as the rates will be announced ahead of this fall’s congressional elections…

…America’s Health Insurance Plans, the industry’s Washington-based lobbying arm, welcomed the administration’s move, saying in a statement that the regulations “provide important clarity about how these insurer-financed programs will work as health plans prepare their rates for 2015.”

This is just the equivalent of a family/doctor not telling a patient he has stage 4 lung cancer with 6 months to live.

The goal is not having to live and deal with him and his realization that life is over for him.

How truly and utterly despicable this government is.

Mmmmmm.....what a show of unity. I guess all the insurance guys are wearing their brown shirts and high boots, as they lockstep smartly before der leader.

This is also the inevitable consequence of the Congress of the United States abdicating its article 1 responsibilities to legislate by telling the bureaucrat in charge of Health and Human Services:

"go away and make up a law that tells Americans how they must be insured, who must be insured, for what, to what extent, what will not be insured, what it will cost, who will treat them, how they will be treated, and whether they will be treated at all; do this on the fly and change it as much as you care to as you go along."

At some point such a shameless abdication of legislative responsibility by the Congress of the United States must be held to be repugnant to the Constitution. Even Chief Justice Roberts must somehow, sometime, find it somewhere in the dark caverns of his conscience to do the right thing.

One might think the dark caverns of their respective consciences still have some flicker of light and right, but honestly believe that the larger part of them are only interested in the quickest and easiest way to maintain their second-tier power in a stress-free manner that only requires stabbing your constituents in the back through continual lying.

As for the Democrats, there is only darkness. It is their whole universe.

Do these insurers realize that the taxpayer subsidies will end after the November elections? Do these insurers realize that after the elections THEY will be stuck with the losses?

Insurers and the American people know they can trust Obama. If things don’t work out for them he can tell everyone he is simply as angry as he can be.

Maybe not; at that point they are beholden to the government and will function as government agencies. This concept of subsidizing the increases with taxpayer dollars is right in line with what the Dems wanted all along: government-controlled healthcare for all (paid for by some).

When the people of Kentucky re-elected the Abdicator in Chief to lead the upper house of Congress, then it is far more the people who put them there who deserve the repudiation than the obvious figurehead that defines them.

First thing we need to do is take over comcast nbc and broadcast the truth

Somebody is a little pissed off. Gotta plan, or just a rant to let off some steam?

It's OK, we all rant from time to time, but a take over of anything is dicey.

You answered your own question. These kind of things don’t exist to a large portion of this country. They never hear about it and when told by (horror) a republican, they think the person is lying.

They believe CNN is a real news organization that reports fairly.

How is this not a high crime or misdemeanor. Manipulating law and markets for political gain. I’m afraid this genie can’t be put back in the bottle and this is the way the government will work from here on out no matter who’s in power. Stick a fork into the U.S. we’re done.

I won’t be too tough on the insurance companies, after all they are complying with the dictates of the regime...

What company wants to lead the way in massive premium hikes while their competitors soak up taxpayer money... ?

Take these taxpayer subsidies and keep rates low, so our election losses are mitigated, or I will go out there and make speech after speech how the insurance industry is the problem with their greedy, high rates.

True-—what’s really appalling is not the latest lockstepping-—but that insurance companies went along with Obama’s destruction of their fine-tuned, well-managed industry from the getgo.
