Thailand's army chief has announced that the military is taking control of the government.

The coup came after two days of inconclusive talks between the main political factions.

Thailand has been in political turmoil for months. On Tuesday the army imposed martial law.

A curfew has been declared, effective across the country from 22:00 to 05:00 local time.

Political party leaders, including opposition leader Suthep Thaugsuban, were taken away from the talks venue after troops sealed off the area......

Seems to me some Freepers call Thailand Home, with others considering it. Be safe.

It is a pattern in Thailand but the struggle in the last few years between the two main parties in the courts, the election campaigns and on the streets has been exceptionally intense for Thailand.

Some people have died in gun or bomb attacks at protest sites in Bangkok in the past year.

Anoreth was on a Coast Guard cutter, so she was paid to get there. This was during a previous violent political disruption a few years ago.

Amazing how silent the Obama Administration is on this. With the Honduras “Coup” action was swift. Then again in Honduras people were fighting for democracy and Chavista interference while in Thailand the elitist/royalist are taking power.

I just finished up a one year holiday in Thailand. For the most part all the political unrest has very little to no affect on the average guy in the street. And if you are away from the protest areas in Bangkok it is invisible there is even a problem.

I have no problem returning today for another year. It is a great land to reside......

Thank you. Yes all is quiet and every reason to think it will remain quiet..

The only noticeable part so far are soldiers in the streets and all television signals taken over by the military. Playing 1930 traditional music and other propaganda.

Expect a sharp uptick in births around next January.
