Detroit Police Chief, Gracing Cover Of NRA Magazine, Defends Stance On Right To Bear Arms

DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit’s police chief is interviewed in the most recent issue of “America’s First Freedom” — an NRA magazine — voicing his support for the right to bear arms.

The article titled, “A Show of Courage In Detroit,” comes following at least five fatal shootings in two months involving homeowners protecting themselves from intruders. The sub-headline reads, “Motor City Police Chief James Craig Encourages Citizens to Arm Themselves.”

Craig, whose photo appears on the cover, says being featured in the magazine does not mean he advocates violence; he just strongly believes in the right to protect one’s self.

“We’re talking about people who are faced with an imminent threat or great bodily injury. That’s what we’re talking about here. So I stand by that, I support it,” ” Craig told WWJ Newsradio 950′s Jackie Paige in a live interview on Monday.

“Certainly there are a lot of Detroiters, not just in Detroit, but certainly our suburban neighbors, who approach me daily and express their support because folks are sick and tired of being victims,” he said.

Craig said he’s been approached by “droves of people” who have praised him for speaking out on this issue.

Kind of odd how the race baiting anti gun loons who usually come running are avoiding Detroit and Chief Craig.

Yeah, he says its where his views began to change because he saw so many law abiding armed citizens with little violence.

My comment goes more to the fact that the Portland Press Herald is own by a far left progressive who his financing much of the dems work here in Maine along with his wife Chellie Pingree’s congressional career.

Portland is a very progressive city and Chief Craig was our first non-white department head. He came here from 28 years rising through the ranks of the LAPD. He was a nice guy, but betting money was that he would not stay long and sure enough a couple of years later we were embarking on another expensive nationwide search. We went in house and choose the deputy chief who has stepped up to a remarkable job leading the department.

Portland is a small city in the scale of America with just 66,000 residents so it was surprising that Chief Craig would come all the way here from LA. After two years he moved on to Cincinnati becoming their first black and non-Cincinnati bred chief.

Craig sounds like a good man... took courage to take the stand he took... Many thanks to Chief Craig.

Be sure to check out the Cam&Co interview with him. He says they’ve seen a 33% drop in the number of carjackings from last year to this year. He also brings up the Steve Utash beating.

I listened to the interview... that’s one impressive man. I’m adding Chief James Craig to my list of people to pray for... the evil ones will be after him... may God watch over and protect him...

I saw a local TV interview with him where he took a moment to speak directly to the criminal element. He pointed out that citizens don’t face the same restrictions about shooting as police do and feeling genuinely threatened is good enough for a citizen. If you’re breaking into their home unarmed, the citizen can shoot you anyway.

are taking their neighborhoods back however slow it may be they are
RISING to the hand created by their CORRUPT government officials!!!
I HATE TO SAY IT but I believe THEY will still vote DEM,!!!!

If Detroit had five more people like Chief Craig, they might be able to save the city...

Hard to say but they did recently elect a white mayor where they would never vote for a white man. However republicans have to run.

Ben Carson is softer on guns than Craig but I do think he could win and bring real leadership and inspiration to Detroit. He’s from Detroit and is a local hero with schools named after him.

As far as guns are concerned, it wouldn’t matter what Carson thinks because state law overrides local ordinances on the issue.
