An Iranian actress who received a quick peck on the cheek while attending the Cannes Film Festival could face a public flogging for violating Islamic law.
Leila Hatami got kissed by festival president Gilles Jacob during a public event, an act which sparked unrest in her homeland.
Hatami, one of her country's biggest stars who was featured in the critically hailed film A Separation, is under attack from a group with links to Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
According to the Guards-run Tasnim news website, the Hizbullah Students organisation called for Hatami to be flogged for “kissing a strange man”. The maximum sentence the offence can incur is 50 lashes.

Bull. Iran is more sane than most of US allies in the region. The majority of population doesn’t support islamist crap and openly defies it. Islamism is about in that same position as it was communism in Eastern Europe in the 1980s.

It’s always refreshing that the most well-informed and accurate understanding of issues are right here on Conservative sites. It makes me laugh out loud when I visit leftwing sites discussing Iranian issues, and there comes virulently anti-islamist Iranian commentators themselves using unimaginably expletives and four-letter words to describe islam and koran and muhammad that would make even Conservatives blush with shock, and there they are the utterly useless leftwing dunces all in a huffy tying to defend islam and islamists against these Iranians and ending up telling them they don’t know what they’re talking about!! It’s truly a delicious sight to behold, how those fed-up Iranian commentators put these foolish leftwing apologists in their place.
