Todashev’s Killer: No Wonder His Identity Was Secret

Doubts about the already controversial shooting of Boston Bombing figure Ibragim Todashev in Florida last year are sure to grow with new revelations about the FBI agent who shot him.

As WhoWhatWhy previously reported, the case is full of anomalies and part of a larger pattern of harassment against Chechen-Americans who knew accused bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Like everything related to the bombing, Todashev’s killing is swaddled in official secrecy and the U.S. government’s latest report about the Boston tragedy shows there was plenty to be secretive about.

Emerging details about the FBI shooter’s past cry out for further inquiries about the FBI itself. How could they hire an officer with such a history?

Officials refused to identify anyone present during the May 22, 2013, shooting of Todashev, a 27-year-old mixed martial arts fighter, in his Orlando apartment. But Florida State Attorney Jeffrey L. Ashton’s report on the shooting did so—inadvertently—despite the FBI’s request to remove any identifying information.

On May 14, 2014, the Boston Globe identified Aaron McFarlane, 41, as the agent who emptied half his ammunition clip into Todashev. It uncovered his name by “removing improperly created redactions” in PDF files from the Florida report.

Digging through public records, the newspaper discovered McFarlane had been accused of brutality—twice—while serving as an Oakland police officer in lawsuits that were settled out of court. (McFarlane and another officer were allegedly beating up someone who had already been subdued when they noticed a bystander photographing the incident. Then they attacked the bystander.)

Ibragim’s handwritten murder confession, according to investigators

He also took the Fifth Amendment and later testified under immunity during a corruption investigation into a rogue police unit called “The Riders” whose members were charged with making false arrests, planting evidence, and falsifying police reports. The city settled the federal lawsuit for $10.9 million. McFarlane wasn’t charged in that case, or in three other internal affairs investigations, although a prosecutor accused him of being misleading.

McFarlane retired from the Oakland Police Department in 2004 on medical disability after repeatedly injuring his leg and breaking his ankle, securing a lifetime $52,000-a-year pension. Four years later he joined the FBI, raising questions about how he passed both the rigorous background check and the FBI’s physical requirements.

The Globe story advanced the work of the Boston Marathon Bombings blog which, in a May 3 post, explained how it used simple software to find the names of McFarlane and Massachusetts State Troopers Curtis Cinelli and Joel Gagne. It also recovered a picture of what the investigators said was Todashev’s unfinished, handwritten confession of involvement in a 2011 triple murder in Waltham, Mass. Authorities were already investigating Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s links to those slayings.

Among the other finds is a photograph of the gash on McFarlane’s head, which the report says was caused when Todashev struck him with a table. It gives no explanation as to why McFarlane turned his back on an agitated Todashev, a physically dangerous suspect who had a sticker of an AK-47 on the front door of his apartment.

Agent McFarlane’s head, lacerated when Todashev allegedly hit him with a table.

The agent was cleared of any wrongdoing by an FBI internal review. That’s no shock. The FBI always clears its agents of wrongdoing in shootings.

Ashton cleared him too, but notes that the FBI complicated the analysis by limiting the Florida investigators’ access to McFarlane to a signed, sworn statement. Why didn’t the FBI let a fellow law enforcement agency follow its usual investigative procedures and make McFarlane available for an interview?

As with most aspects of the Boston Marathon bombing, the official answers leave us asking: what else are they hiding?

Author is I believe assuming that the agent “turned his back” on Todashev. We don’t know this for a fact though. Todashev was an extremely agile mixed martial arts competitor. The wound being to the back of the head doesn’t necessarily mean that the agent’s back was turned.

The continual love fest on FR for Muslim terrorist Ibrahim Todashev would be amusing if it weren't so pathetic.

My favorite are those who have a crush on Vladimir Putin and on Todashev simultaneously.

It's doubly ridiculous - not only do they sympathize with both a Chechen terrorist and the man who is the world's most prominent killer of Chechens, but they oppose American law enforcement while idolizing the Russian secret police.

McFarlane gets into a fight w/ Todashev. Was he trying to arrest him?
Todashev hits him on the head, a nasty looking wound BTW, McFarlane shoots him.
The problem?

Just because people would like some actual honesty and forthrightness from our government does not mean they support the accused. Those who would write a blank check to Fedgov are not serving the cause of liberty.

“Waco was all Janet el Rino.”

Nope.

I was contacted by one of the Waco investigators because of info I had provided to the US Attorneys office in Houston back in June of 1992.

The info I provided the US Attorneys tied the FBI and unknown to me at the time the ATF also, into orchestrating cover up of police/official corruption of city govts. which are overwhelmingly controlled by dems.

It involved the 15,000 FBI files of complaints filed against police with the FBI and why only, IIRC,42 of the complaints were pursued in court.

Bush had ordered the US Attorneys to review the 15,000 FBI files and find out why only 42 cases were pursued.

One of the 42 cases pursued out of 15,000 complaints filed was against Governor Bill Clinton for ordering his Arkansas State Troopers to racial profile. As part of the settlement he had agreed to stop racial profiling, but he didn’t so he was in contempt of court. A review of the complaints would have revealed that.

Waco was Hillary’s operation to cover up what was in those FBI files, namely Billy’s racial profiling, and it started before Reno was anywhere to be found.

Vince Fosters job was to surround Bill Clinton with people that also needed the US Attorneys fired to cover up what was in those files. Reno was just one.

VF ended up dead when he started spilling his guts about the firing of the US Attorneys.

Waco was orchestrated as a diversion to the second trial of the LA police with the R King case and a diversion as to why Reno fired the US Attorneys.

Because of Waco the MSM never bothered to question the firing of the US Attorneys or what was in the 15,000 FBI files the US Attorneys were reviewing.

Those FBI files were all but forgotten until Clintons impeachment when Hillary had a threat of releasing FBI files.

The threat was known as the “Scorched Earth Policy”.

Even though Clinton hadn’t been removed from office after his impeachment, Hillary attempted to implement the “Scorched Earth Policy’ on March 20. 1999.

She failed in her attempt because at least 15 people, I know of 15 because I was number 15, contacted the AP reporter and let her know what it was Hillary was up to.

From my Boston Bomber timeline notes concerning Todashev:

May 21, 2013 – U.S. Rep. William Keating says Russia informed the FBI at some point about Ibragim A. Todashev. At 7:30 pm 6022 Peregrine Avenue, Windhover Condominiums on Kirkman Road near Conroy Road, Orlando, FL directly across the street from Univeral Studios. FBI interviewed Ibragim/Ibrahim A. Todashev (b. Sept. 22, 1985, 27, Chechen born, connections with radical Chechen rebels, US citizenship, previously of the Chechnyan community in Boston and drove a Mercedes) and Khusn Taramov (22, from Chechnya and previously of Boston, he and Todashev knew each other in Checnya and came to US together) at an Orlando, FL apartment for 3 hours. Taramov left after an agent said they’d need Todashev a couple more hours. He told Taramov he was worried he was getting set up and would be killed so gave him his parent’s phone number in case he got arrested. He is not suspected in the Boston bombing but did confess to the slaying of Mess et al in Boston two years ago. When he was about to sign a confession, he became violent and pulled a knife at which time an agent shot him 18 times and killed him early May, 22, 2013. The agent has non-life threatening injuries. Todashev, an MMA fighter, met Tamerlan several times in Boston while competing in mixed martial arts. Todashev had a plane ticket for May 21 to NY to Chechnya to spend a month with family that was bought before the bombings and the FBI wanted to question him before he left and was pressuring him not to leave so he cancelled the ticket. May 4, 2013, Todashev was arrested on aggravated assault charges after getting into a fight with a man at the Orlando Premuium Outlet mall over a parking space and released on May 5, 2013 on a $3,500 surety bond.

FBI agents came to the apartment complex and started questioning a few people of Chechnyan descent. “One day they started questioning us, next day after the bombing, not the bombing , after they found out the bombers were Chechnyans, and they started following us, watching us, they pretty much told the guy from his apartment and they start following us, watching us like everyday,” said Taramov. Said Todashev just gotten his green card (green card or citizenship?) and had spoken to Tamerlan a month before (a week before the bombing or just after?). Didn’t know Tamerlan in Chechnya. He’d also been to Boston to visit Tamerlan. Several Chechnyans in apartment complex claim they’re muslim but not radicals. In the last two months, neighbors reported unfamiliar cars and men walking around the complex and parking near the condo. She said the man used to sit in his white Mercedes and listen to music and give candy to kids. FBI sending a post-shooting incident review team from Washington. This may have been his girlfriend’s apartment. Todashev lived in a gated community in Kissimmee called Orlando Sun Village and had been in the US since 2006.

Dec 30, 2013 – Father of Ibragim/Ibrahim A. Todashev, Abdulbaki Todashev, now of Russia, wrote to Obama asking for explaination in FBI shooting death of his son. Claims son knew the brothers through boxing but wasn’t involved in any other crime. Says Ibrahim went to FBI office 4 times for interviews and fears a cover up. FBI/locals now hazy on him having a knife.

Notes on the murders:

Sept 11, 2011 – Tamerlan’s best friend, another Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School grad (same class as Tamerlan?) and boxer, Brendan Halley Mess (25, martial arts instructor) and two other Jewish men, Erik Hacker Weissman (31, a Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School grad, personal trainer) and Raphael Teken (37, close friend to Mess’ brother Dylan, and bodybuilder) were dragged to different rooms and murdered in Mess’s and Teken’s apartment at 12 Harding Avenue Waltham, MA – throats slit/nearly decapitated, seven pounds of marijuana and $5,000 scattered over bodies. Suspicion is now on Tamerlan. Cell phone records show the brothers were in the area that night. Police records show marijuana arrests and neighbors thought they were dealers. A 3 dinner order was called into Gerry’s Italian Kitchen at 8:54 p.m. from Mess’ cell, but when a delivery woman arrived at 9:14 pm, there was no answer at the door and no one answered a call to Weissman’s cell phone, from which the order was placed. Cell phone records show none of their cells were used after that time. The bodies were discovered the next day. Tamerlan didn’t go to Mess’ memorial or funeral and didn’t go back to the gym until March 2013 when he was rude. Friends say he was upset with Mess’ lifestyle.

This case stinks to high heaven.

I think the elder Tsarnaev started out as a US asset and ended up flipped to the other side.

I think the FBI feared he might have disclosed his original status to his MMA friend, something that if made public might make it SEEM as if the FBI had a role in the bombing.

So they more or less offed this friend in the field.

SIX hours of productive field interrogation without bringing him it..?

That just SCREAMS irregularity.
