Chip Maxwell to run against Lee Terry (Nebraska)

WASHINGTON — Rep. Lee Terry’s path to re-election may have just gotten more complicated.

Chip Maxwell, a former state senator, confirmed Wednesday that he will launch a petition drive to appear on November’s general election alongside Omaha’s Republican congressman and Democratic challenger Brad Ashford.

"I am running for Congress," Maxwell said in a statement. "I am not ready to make a formal announcement because I’m still putting together my campaign plan and team. I have a plan to save the country, but first I have to put together a winning campaign plan."

Maxwell switched his party registration from Republican to nonpartisan on Dec. 31. He had to make the change by Jan. 1 to be eligible for a petition candidacy.

As for his party switch, Maxwell said that was merely a procedural move to get him on the ballot. He said he plans to rejoin the GOP after the election and serve in Congress as a Republican.

Looks to me that we have just handed the seat to the Demoncrats. Lee Terry is a lukewarm Republican. However, the Tea Party candidate lost in the primary. He refused to close ranks and give his support to Terry. Then Maxwell (who has been planning this since at least last December 31st) jumped in and the Tea Party guy gave his support to Maxwell.

Unfortunately, there was a history of this in Nebraska in the past. I had hoped we got over that. When two strong Republicans run against each other, the Demoncrat gets elected. Although both Terry and Maxwell deny this will happen here, it has happened too many times in the past (remember Bob Kerrey, Jim Exon, and Ben Nelson of Cornhusker Kickback fame). People on FR have asked how Nebraska ends up electing Demoncrats all the time. Well, this is exactly how.

I would have nothing against Maxwell if he ran in the primary and won, but handing this to the Demoncrat (who is close friends with Sarah Brady and introduced many bills in the legislature for her) disgusts me.

I FULLY SUPPORT WHAT THEY ARE DOING...RINO’S WILL DO NOTHING TO MOVE THIS COUNTRY IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AS IT DECLINES INTO BANKRUPTCY FUELED BY RINO’S ALLOWING THE DEBT CEILING TO CONSTANTLY INCREASE.

If the conservative candidate fails in the primary, run one in the general election.

So Maxwell is basically saying, “Waaaaaaaaaaa! If I can’t be congressman, you can’t be congressman either.”

I hope the district is such that it will work out, but if Maxwell splits the vote and throws this to the Dem he should be black-balled for life. This disgusts me.

That’s terribly flawed thinking

If more did this, the dems would control the House too. You think we would be better off then?

The dems love conservatives running as 3rd party candidates. The reasons should appear logical.

“I have a plan to save the country, ...”

If you couldn’t sell the idea in the republican primary, I doubt your great plan will sell now.

When the third party emerged in Canada for ten years or so in the 1990’s the Liberal Party ran the show and eventually a new “Conservative Party of Canada” was born to replace the old “Progressive Conservative Party”.

Canada survived the mess....,

BOTH MAJOR PARTIES ARE MOVING US THE SAME WAY AT DIFFERENT RATES OF SPEED.

YOU CALL THE PAUL RYAN BUDGET WE OPERATE UNDER NOW WITH NEW TAXES CALLED AIRLINE FEES AND MILITARY PENSION CUTS A BETTER OFF SITUATION.

How about a balanced budget and no new taxes at all?????

Why didn’t he run as a republican? Did he not have his plan to save America then?

If he didn’t want to hurt conservatives chances, he would have run as a republican. He chose not to do so.

It is foolish to think this could be good for conservatives. All one has to do is look at the Virginia governor’s race to know how this usually works out. BTW, there is a liberal Texas billionaire that may be willing to help Chip put the demo in office.

I think its becoming increasing clear that America needs its own version of today’s UKIP in England or the Reform Party of Canada in the 1990’s.

The GOP needs to stop faking conservatism with emotional speeches followed by Democrat-lite modified Obamacare.

We need total reversal not a “market-friendly” Obamacare system.

You’re basically pushing a “crash and burn” agenda for America.

If demos get both houses of congress, illegal’s votes would count just as much as your vote. It would be game over.

Canada did not crash and burn when its “third party” emerged to crush the “Progressive Conservatives” and hand power to the Liberals in the 1990’s.

If he was serious, he would have gotten into the race earlier. Too late and too bad. He can share his plan to “save America” another day.

Let the demos take both houses of congress and then get back with me.
