In big public push, White House seeks to smooth way for carbon curbs

Last month, Washington's top environment advocate went to the Cleveland Clinic to talk about how President Barack Obama's landmark efforts to crack down on power-plant carbon emissions would ease a range of respiratory illnesses.

The proposed curbs will form the cornerstone of Obama's climate action plan, a multi-layered blueprint for fighting global warming unveiled a year ago. The plan is critical to fulfilling U.S. commitments to reduce emissions agreed to at an international forum in Copenhagen in 2009.

It is also key to carving out a legacy for Obama's second term.

In 2008, Obama made comments about “bankrupting” coal plant owners and making energy prices “skyrocket.”

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted,” Obama said during a meeting with the San Francisco Chronicle’s editorial board.

“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad,” he added. “Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to, uh, retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”

“It is also key to carving out a legacy for Obama’s second term.”

Take over the health care system and turn it into a socialist nightmare in the first term and destroy the economy in the second. I pray that history deals harshly with him.

I'm glad to see Terri Land running firmly against this kind of crap. She even puts Obama in his own words in this ad.

I pray that history deals harshly with him.

I believe Rush Limbaugh had it correct when he said the historians not yet born will deal harshly with him.

The current crop is too deathly afraid of being smacked down on Twitter.

and in this liberal, politically correct environment, any criticism of this president and his policies is called racist by many in the media. Even allegedly serious people such as Sen. Rockefeller and Jimmy Carter have called criticism if Obama as racist.

Future historians will not have to worry about being called racist.

I still say the money is only a part of it.

The primary driving motivation for elitists is to make as much DIFFERENCE in lifestyle between themselves and others as possible. They want to be GODS.

Once they’ve achieved about all they can in this fleshly realm - money, power, fame, etc, the only thing they can do to achieve more DIFFERENCE is to stifle the lifestyles of others.

Global levels of CO2 have gone up every year since 2007.

The amount of CO2 emitted in the US has gone down, almost continuously, since 2007.

If Obama is worried about CO2 levels (I’m not), and those levels keep going up while our emissions keep going down, then someone else is responsible for the increase, and Obama should be bugging them, not us.

It is also key to carving out a legacy for Obama's second term.

As you grind away at work today, take comfort in the fact that a sizable portion of your wages will be confiscated from you so that Obama can carve himself a suitable legacy.

It’s not about curbing carbon emissions. It’s about creating another bullshit financial instrument to siphon money off of off of the real economy.

"If Obama is worried about CO2"

In 2007 SCOTUS ruled that CO2 was a pollutant and told EPA to investigate the risk, threat, danger of CO2 and if needed, use the Clean Air Act to regulate CO2.

Bush, and later Obama, wanted Congress to preempt EPA/Prez and regulate CO2.

Congress debated this and in 2008, Cap and Trade won out over Cap and Tax. But in 2009 House Cap and Trade failed and in 2010 a scaled back senate version also failed. Also, in 2009, by negotiation, it was agreed that Tailpipe CO2(mobile sources) would be reduced by raising CAFE standards. EPA signed off so the solution being sought is about stationary sources such as power plants, refineries, cement kilns, etc. And they want to regulate only these largest emitters.

After Congress fails, in 2010, Obama/EPA moves forward. And lawsuits fly. Numerous suits and many, many plaintiffs including 20 states.

In 2012, DC Court of Appeals rules for EPA. In 2013 the plaintiffs appeal to Scotus who agrees to hear just one narrow part of the case, and that decision is due out any day now.
