The 'Almost Exclusively White Phenomenon' of Conservatism
American Thinker ^ | 05/23/2014 | John Bennett

Posted on 05/23/2014 8:08:25 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Every conservative should consider the profound and possibly awful observation made by the New York Times’ Josh Barro (italics added):

The rush to stand with Mr. Bundy against the Bureau of Land Management is the latest incarnation of conservative antigovernment messaging. And nonwhites are not interested, because a gut-level aversion to the government is almost exclusively a white phenomenon.

If there were validity to Barro’s observation, then any anti-government political philosophy (that wished to survive) would seek to reduce immigration.

After all, America is rapidly importing economically poor, poorly educated, low-skilled immigrants.  Those immigrants generate racial inequalities, and inequality is then used to shame and guilt the majority.  This is the neurotic cycle I call “America’s never-ending shame.”  A constant influx of the “disadvantaged” guarantees a racialized political system and the growth of a Leviathan welfare state.

How can we verify that “a gut-level aversion to the government is almost exclusively a white phenomenon”?  For starters, we could look to numerous polls and opinion surveys, which are a better indication of Latino opinion that any self-serving GOP talking points.

The Pew Research Center recently explored Hispanic views about the role of government. Seventy-five percent of Hispanics want “a bigger government providing more services,” while only 19% prefer “a smaller government providing fewer services.”

Source: Pew Hispanic Center, Pew Research Center

Among Asians (the second-largest group of immigrants today) the result was 55% favoring big government to 36% favoring smaller.  In response to a similar question in 2002, far fewer Hispanics (55%) preferred bigger government; the trends are unfavorable for advocates of limited government.

The longer Hispanics are in the country, the less they wanted big government!

The pace of mindset change is distressing.

A hundred years ago, people came to this country with their sleeves rolled up, begging to get to work on improving their lot in life.

Now, they show up fat, hat in hand, looking for the free stuff.

That’s it.

We’re in an environment where demographic groups are being targeted for bribes and other benefits as well as being provoked based on them being the victims of discrimination, bigotry and racism.

The great provider and protector is ... the government. At least they are conditioned to believe that.

The problem is that at some point the government is going to start failing in it’s role. The current situation can only be strung out for so long before the predicable, inevitable decline occurs. At that point, then what?

It’s a question of Judeo-Christian values. Who cares what damned color you are?

The question of who is or is not "white" has changed with practically every generation. There were times in the 1800s when the Irish were not considered "white"; at the turn of the century the Italians were not considered "white," and Russian/Ukrainian Jews were certainly not considered "white" until well after WWII.

It is telling, I think, that more long-term-American Hispanics are beginning to think of themselves as "white": it doesn't mean they have dumped their heritage or are trying to "pass," but that they have accepted long-term-American values, and see themselves more as Americans than as an ethnicity, just as previous generations of immigrants have done.

The same thing could happen in one generation with American blacks, with only two actions: first, the re-establishment of the nuclear family, both within the black community and in inter-racial marriages, and second, the popular shaming of race-baiters--including people like Sterling, but also people like Sharpton, Cummings, and Holder.

You wont find a more conservative person then a Cambodian clinging to his guns living in the US who had to flee the Killing Fields of Cambodia.

Oh for that matter Vietnamese clinging to their guns who had to flee their homeland on make shift vessels.

Oh for that matter Cubans clinging to their guns in the US who were abandoned by JFK on the shores of their homeland.

And you wont find a more conservative person then a Mexican who fled the drug cartels of his country so he could cling to his guns in the US.

They have all had children. They have all instilled conservative values on those children. They now number in the 10's of millions. And they will soon be coming for the tyrants.

You suck at math, you know that?

Tell ya what dude, why don’t you start a coffee bar! I’ll buy a $1 cup of coffee from ya if you pay me $1.64 first. All you need to do to get rich is offer that same deal to 20,000,000 other folks, you’ll be making a loss on every sale, but hey you’ll make up for it in volume!

Sound like a good idea?

How about this one, because my ancestors have been here for generations you pay me $1.64 so I can buy your $1 cup of coffee. But my cousin who was born in this country but has recent immigrant ancestors, you gotta pay him $1.78 before he’d be willing to buy your $1 cup of coffee. Sound like a good deal to you?

How about my other cousins, all 25 of them, they just immigrated, so they won’t accept less than being paid $1.88 by you in order to buy your $1 coffee - I mean, they haven’t had as long to assimilate or accumulate wealth, they’ve got to rely on you to pay for their home, health care, education, drug habits, all that good business.

Seventy-five percent of Hispanics want “a bigger government providing more services,” while only 19% prefer “a smaller government providing fewer services.”

That’s a leading question. Ask, instead “Do you want a bigger government charging more taxes, or a smaller government charging less taxes” and the numbers will flip right around.

a gut-level aversion to big government is almost exclusively a white phenomenon.

Thanks to the power and ability of the government to create money out of thin air, more and more people are suffering from the delusion that government is Santa Claus, or a empathetic nurturing parent that can provide them with free benefits that are costless to the citizens.

But white settlers of America of Anglo-Saxon descent wanted to promote a renaissance of Anglo Saxon primitive institutions on the new continent. The statutes of the Anglo-Saxons were like a breath of fresh air that furnished ancient principles of freemen that could become an inportant source of the model for the new government.

On August 13,1776,Jefferson wrote to Edmond Pendleton to convince him that Virginia must abolish the remnants of feudalism and return to the "ancient principles." He wrote:

"Are we not better for what we have hitherto abolished of the feudal system? Has not every restitution of the ancient Saxon laws had happy effects? Is it not better now that we return at once onto that happy system of our ancestors, the wisest and most perfect ever yet devised by the wit of man, as it stood before the eighth century?"

Anyway, Asians, Mexicans, Blacks, etc don’t have the heritage Anglo-Americans have. To the extent that people assimilate into Anglo-American culture, they understand the evils of government. To the extent the Anglo-American heritage is ignored, harangued, abandoned, the more people will turn to government.

You are wrong to ignore genetics as a factor in personality traits. However, it is not inevitable that Conservatism not appeal to any particular group. The Leftist agitation of the past century has been largely successful, for example, in undermining the natural Conservatism of the American Negro--a major talking point when Booker T. Washington was the principal spokesman of the race. (See Booker T. Washington Address.)

When you write of "assimilation," you must not overlook the reality, that while America was clearly the land of the rugged individualist, the Anglo-Celtic culture appealed far more to a self-selected group in other nations, to whom those traits appealed (kindred spirits, almost certainly with some similar innate personality traits), who formed the preponderance of the 19th Century immigrants. (Those who did not fit that pattern, often crowded into Eastern Cities, which early in the 20th Century moved decidedly to the Left.)

With the increasing acceptance of Egalitarian/Collectivist values after the New Deal, this selection process broke down; with the adoption of the radical--indeed anti-White--immigration policy in 1965, which has actually subsidized immigration from lands with no social history or cultural parallels to that of earlier settlers (and, indeed the very opposite social norms, as related to individualism vs. group thinking); there has been a 180 degree departure from any likelihood for assimilation.

Frankly, I do not pretend to understand your apparent suggestion that we look to culture rather than genetics as the explanation for differing attitudes towards government. Specific people create specific cultures. Cultures will reinforce the personality traits that do well in any community; but culture, itself, reflects the result of the dynamic interaction between the unique individual types that live in a particular community.

Even if they were 40% Republican, it wouldn’t benefit us. Basic math. If you add 4 Republicans and 6 Democrats, it helps Democrats, not Republicans.

You know what else is an all-white phenomenon?

Volunteering to help in times of disaster.

My brother-in-law was in New Orleans after Katrina. White people were there from all over the country, helping out every way they could. There were virtually no black people doing the same things.

But you’re not allowed to mention this.

They don’t really want to be ruled over but they are willing to accept it in return for a free ride. Their ultimate goal is to join the ruling group and get a free ride too like all the worthless leeches who “work” for the government now.

I have no idea what you talking about. I simply pointed out the reality that Hispanic views of big government are changing as each generation grows up in this country. Your talking about coffee. I’ll bite. Try decaf.
