Ukrainian Donbas Battalion ambushed in Donetsk Oblast village; at least five killed
Kiev Post ^ | 5-23-2014 | Mark Rachkevych

Outnumbered six-to-one, at least one Ukrainian Donbas Volunteer Battalion member was killed and 20 were wounded in an ambush by 150-200 pro-Russian separatists in the village of Karlivka, 35 kilometers northwest of Donetsk, the quasi-military unit’s press center said.

An unspecified number were captured, the press center added. Reporting from Karlivka, Agence France-Presse stated that at least four separatists were also killed in the same confrontation.

The ambush took place around 6 a.m. on May 23 while the group was approaching a separatist-held checkpoint near a dam reservoir next to the village where usually “7-10 people stood guard,” Semyon Semenchenko, the group’s leader, told 112 Ukraina television channel.

Instead up to 200 Kremlin-backed separatists surrounded the battalion and used automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades and sniper fire from rifles, he posted on Facebook. An hour later, the separatists were reinforced by an armored personnel carrier, heavy machine guns and grenades.

“Just 15 kilometers from here in the direction of Krasnoarmiysk there is a Ukrainian military checkpoint with four armored personnel carriers,” Semenchenko posted to Facebook. “We can’t get to our (surrounded) comrades, there is sniper fire. All of my calls to military commanders have fallen on deaf ears.”

Per Twitter, right now, a hospital where the wounded of the Right-Sector Donbas group were taken is surrounded by rebels, and they want them.

This is the same group, led by the spokesman for Right-Sector's prez candidate, Semenchenko, that shot the unarmed civilians on election day, not far from where this battle took place.

The Interpreter's Ukraine Live Blog has a good description of this, as well. Events are still unfolding. http://www.interpretermag.com/ukraine-liveblog-day-95-another-deadly-ambush-near-donetsk/

There are also reports of 6 Ukrainian Soldiers killed near Lugansk, either during or after a “large” group of soldiers defected to the rebels. Still unclear exactly what happened there.

“Ukraine is beginning to sound like Chicago on weekends???????????”

The Ukrainian Civil War has gone hot. Of course, this makes Obama look like an idiot, so the U.S. Media has decided to just ignore this is happening, beyond covering what Obama’s hashtags are saying.

Twitter, from the account that was posting Semenchenko’s appeals for help last night:

Battalion Donbas informs they don’t have contact w sieged remains of unit in Karlivka.

Battalion Donbas says they have 20 WIA. Won’t name number of KIA. Terrorists’ loss was 3x higher despite having supremacy.

Bezler aka Bes who resides in Horlivka let battalion Donbas know his unit executed ALL captured battalion soldiers. First KIAs

Update from the EuroMaidan PR Facebook:

Donbas Battalion update:

At 7am the battalion was ambushed at a roadblock near Karlovka by Russian forces using sniper rifles, submachine guns, and RPGs. An hour later an enemy APC arrived with mounted machine guns. By 9am the unit broke feee from encirclement. Approximately 50% of the unit is wounded but cannot be treated. Ammunition is low.

The battalion believes that separatist soldiers knew of its movements as usually there is no such concentration of manpower and armor. They also believe the enemy contains Chechen detachments.

The group was on a reconnaissance mission a Reuters witness and militia sources said at least two people were dead. In Karlovka itself a Reuters correspondent saw two dead members of the battalion.

“We have so far confirmed one dead from our soldiers. We hope the others have been captured but if they are not we will have up to five dead. We have more than five injured, they are being taken away to Kiev now,” Semenchenko told Reuters. He also said that the terrorists suffered “three times more losses.”

Commander Semen Semenchenko issued an address to pro-Russians in order to negotiate the exchange of captured POWs. According to him Igor Bezler, a Russian GRU colonel, has informed him that the two member of his battalion who were captured have been “anihilated. He stressed that if anything happens to his men “we are going to terrorize you in the city.”

The Ukrainian Civil War has gone hot.

Putin thugs killing people, attempting to disrupt what would be an embarrassing election result, in a last ditch attempt to be relevant.

Kiev Media has been making a big deal about the “Donbas” Right Sector militia group that was attacked has been moving toward Donetsk for a week now.

There are many reports of civilians being killed as they moved through villages looking for “Separatists”.

Like yesterday, the Horlivka Rebel group pulled this off, though the Right Sector leader is claiming it was “Chechens”.

“Putin thugs killing people, attempting to disrupt what would be an embarrassing election result, in a last ditch attempt to be relevant.”

If you actually paid attention to events, you would know that the “thugs” were the ones being surrounded. They like killing people that can’t fight back.

Try following the conversation instead of posting nonsense.

You said, "The Ukrainian Civil War has gone hot."

To which I responded, describing what is really going on in E. Ukraine as...“Putin thugs killing people, attempting to disrupt what would be an embarrassing election result, in a last ditch attempt to be relevant.”

The comment stands.

“attempting to disrupt what would be an embarrassing election result, in a last ditch attempt to be relevant”

Do try to keep up...
Kiev has already admitted that they likely won’t be able to hold the election in the East.

You're playing a semantic game, and not very good one at that, trying to divert attention away from the point of my simple statement.

I'm describing the thug offensive that started a few days ago and that needs to continue thru the election.

This offensive is about “Putin thugs killing people, attempting to disrupt what would be an embarrassing election result, in a last ditch attempt to be relevant.”

Whether at this point it time it seems that it will "likely" succeed doesn't change the truth in my statement.

Deal with it.

EuroMaidanPr:

60 terrorists surrounded a hospital w wounded “Donbas” battalion in Donetsk. Some medics leaked info to terrorists

Kiev has to call them “terrorists”. To call them “rebels” would be to admit that there is a civil war going.

All of my calls to military commanders have fallen on deaf ears.”

Relaying a telephone message from Semenchenko on Facebook, military expert and blogger Dmitry Tymchuk later said “well-trained Chechen forces” were among the separatists.

Fighters from the nationalist group Praviy Sektor subsequently joined the fight and succeeded in partially breaking the encirclement to allow the core of the Donbas Battalion to escape, said Praviy Sektor leader Dmytro Yarosh on Facebook.

“We have [an unspecified number] killed in action, many are wounded…our marines came,” posted Yarosh.

He complained of help not coming sooner to the Donbas Battalion: “Again, either the counterterrorist operation leadership is incompetent or they are traitors…again, our boys have too few weapons, are ill-equipped, while the terrorists have superior arms.”

The press center of the Donbas Battalion would not confirm or refute reports that Right Sector members arrived to help.

Meanwhile, the press service of the Right Sector says that four soldiers of the Donbas battalion were captured, or killed. About two thirds of the group – around twenty men – were wounded. There were no losses among the Right Sector fighters, but two soldiers received light injuries, Interfax Ukraine reported.

The wounded were taken to the military checkpoint near Krasnoarmiysk.

Donbas IS Right Sector.

Semenchenko, the “Donbas” (a.k.a. Kolomoyskyi’s Headhunters) Commander, is the spokesman for Right Sector’s Prez candidate, Dmitry Yarosh.

At least two of the dead from this fight have Nazi Swasitka’s tattooed on their chests, per pics and video on Twitter.

How can you deny that they aren’t?
