Ready for H.I.V.'s Sexual Revolution? (Truvada to encourage more sodomy)
New York Times ^ | MAY 23, 2014 | DONALD G. McNEIL Jr.

Posted on 05/23/2014 9:27:40 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Pretend it’s 1960, and the Food and Drug Administration has just done something startling. It has taken a drug it had previously approved for infertility — brand name Enovid — and approved it for the opposite use: birth control. That pill — soon simply the Pill — triggered the sexual revolution.

But not overnight. Doctors at first resisted giving it to unmarried women. Women were shy about carrying evidence that they actually planned to have sex. Feminists like Margaret Sanger and Katharine D. McCormick braved vilification to champion it. Madison Avenue chimed in: Ads featured Andromeda, the princess of Greek mythology, nude and breaking free of her chains.

Some of the dire predictions of moralists did come true: Gonorrhea rates rose. Side effects like blood clots emerged. But the revolution stuck.

For gay men — not to mention millions of Africans, drug users and others at risk for contracting H.I.V. — the world is again at such a moment.

The F.D.A. has taken a drug — Truvada — that was approved for H.I.V. treatment in 2004, and approved it for prevention, a use called pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. On May 14, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed PrEP, saying it could benefit up to 500,000 Americans.

Predictably, a backlash has arisen. Some men who use it instead of condoms are called “Truvada whores.” Some complain of being “slut-shamed” by their own doctors, who are reluctant to write prescriptions. Opponents said that syphilis and gonorrhea rates, already high among gay men, would worsen.

For now, Truvada has no Andromeda or Margaret Sanger. The C.D.C. recommendations were released quietly, with no news conference. And Gilead Sciences, its maker, doesn’t advertise it for PrEP. But it may yet become accepted.

I’m not responsible for what others do and when I can, as in not signing up for Obamacare, I will not pay for what they do. I love America because it’s based on liberty and I hate the federal government because it’s based on oppression.

How about long-term effects on breast-cancer rates?

“.. take from heterosexual Peter and give to homosexual Paul...”

My apologies to Rudyard Kipling.

It’s Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature!

No matter what they try to come up with — Mother Nature will always have the last word...some things just aren’t supposed to be and there are consequences for all our actions and lying won’t stop the consequences.

Sounds like a great way to select for Truvada-resistant HIV

Kipling would concur.

Contemplate the verse prior to the one from which you paraphrased.

Breast-cancer rates have long been, and are still at a point where breast cancer is the #1 cause of female cancer death worldwide.

Even though the researchers have known for decades that breast cancer is a highly hormone-driven disease.

They don't care. People want to screw and die, that's all.

Cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea (LINK) is going to result in sterility, chronic disease, and death to millions, gay and straight, male and female. And the conditions for that are being pursued right now, knowingly, by people who know "that's not a glitch, that's a feature."

Hosea 9:12-13

No conceptions, no pregnancies, no births!
Even if they rear children,
I will bereave them of every one.
Ephraim will bring out their children
To the slayer.

I knew when I read the post you had to be the author. I had forgotten that scripture from Hosea. It’s so true though. Especially now.

Shhhhh! Obama will hear that and step forward. He wants to be “savior” so badly!

This is as insane as trying to make Russian Roulette “safer” by adding a few chambers to the cylinder of the revolver, and then encouraging the idiots to keep playing.

Rubbing my eyes in disbelief. Are the Gay Mafia at the Times really equating avoidance of conception with avoidance of venereal disease? Is that what we're reading here?

The agenda is to reduce US population by any means they can. Degenerating the society is the current modus operandi.

I believe we can trace the decline of our moral fiber to The Pill. Once pregnancy was removed as a consequence of random sex, the physical reason to avoid the most pleasurable of human acts was erased, leaving only the moral imperatives to guide our behavior.

In the battle of conscience versus Id, Id wins every time.

I would imagine that there will come a day where a super-resistant HIV strain “that kills no matter what” will eventually emerge. It only stands to reason that the virus will mutate into a Truvada resistant form, and then into another, and another.

I worked for Searle for years. Enovid has always been known by doctors as an effective, though powerful contraceptive ... it is a high dose medication in a woprld where losest dose that works is considered best. The follow-up contraceptive to Enovid was Ovulen, still a high dose hormone medication. That drug led to the development of Demulen, a more measured dose of hormone therapy to prevent ovulation, as all three were aimed at doing. The Enovid was so strong in suppressing ovulation that when the patients stopped the drug, they popped out ovum like popcorn, enhancing fertility.
