Airlines exiting Venezuela because of World Cup, Maduro says

CARACAS (Reuters) - Airlines are halting flights to Venezuela not because of the country's economic problems but to take advantage of the World Cup in neighboring Brazil, the president said on Thursday.

Air Canada recently cut flights to Venezuela because of security concerns, Alitalia suspended services due to delays in repatriating revenue under currency controls, and a clutch of other airlines have reduced the frequency of flights.

Maduro lashed out at companies thinking of closing shop amid what he says is an "economic war" against him by capitalist foes. "Whoever leaves Venezuela in the midst of this economic war doesn't return to Venezuela because Venezuela must be respected," Maduro said, vowing to bolster national and international flights.

Venezuelans wishing to fly abroad are finding it increasingly hard to purchase tickets due to reduced numbers on sale and sky-rocketing prices. Some sit up until the small hours to try and book tickets online as soon as they become available.

"Whoever leaves Venezuela in the midst of this economic war doesn't return to Venezuela because Venezuela must be respected . . ."

Well, you Marxist b*st*rd, the first step to Venezuela regaining respect would be for you to take a long walk on a short dock.

Yep, and there will always be capitalist as long as there’s the smallest amount of freedom.

This Mundial will turn out to be the biggest sports fiasco since the Cubs.

Just as with 70 years of bad weather used to explain failures in Soviet agricultural production I guess Maduro somehow is going to have to convince Venezuelians the World Cup is going to last a few years.

I just read a long list of all the worlds countries inflation rates in 2013. Venezuela’s was 57.4%. I didn’t count them but just a cursory look indicated nearly all other countries were under ten and most around 2 or better.

Venezuela’s folks want something for nothing and California’s and 43% of the US at large. This while they are all flat broke and soon will not be able to even borrow money, including the US.
