Prince Charles is right: Similarites between Putin and Hitler are uncanny

Writing in "Mein Kampf," Hitler referred to the German surrender at the end of World War I and the subsequent Treaty of Versailles as the "greatest villainy of the century," calling those responsible "miserable and degenerate criminals" who "were ready to sacrifice the whole nation, and, if necessary, to let Germany be destroyed; and in my eyes this made them ripe for hanging." He asked, "how could this deed be justified to future generations?"

Putin employed similar terminology in discussing the fall of the Soviet Union: "Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century. As for the Russian nation, it became a genuine drama. Tens of millions of our co-citizens and compatriots found themselves outside Russian territory."

Of Crimea and surrounding regions, more specifically, Putin decried that "the Bolsheviks, for a number of reasons – may God judge them – added large sections of the historical South of Russia to the Republic of Ukraine." And "the residents of Crimea...were handed over like a sack of potatoes." Similarly, "the people could not reconcile themselves to this outrageous historical injustice."

Thus each man sought a similar goal -- reuniting a conceptual historical nation that had supposedly lost many of its "rightful" lands.

Hitler's ultimate goal -- the Third Reich -- sought to bring together all peoples and lands Hitler perceived as Germanic: "the German nation has arisen and has unfurled the banner of a reunion which symbolically announces, not a political triumph, but the triumph of the racial principle."

Likewise, in announcing the annexation of Crimea, Putin asked for support for "the aspiration of the Russians, of historical Russia, to restore unity."

No comparison at all. Putin doesn’t give a s***, he is what he is. Love or hate the commie bastard, mox nix, he’ll just dare you to laugh at him.

“I’m lord & master of the Russian Federation, what are you?”

Hitler OTOH was extremely insecure. Imagine a shirtless Adolf on horseback, he was on the male/female cusp as it was. Yet he seduced an entire nation into warfare & mass murder.

Putin loves the power & prestige. He’s not ready to throw it all away on a supreme gamble as Hitler did.

Prince Charles needs to go back & work on his metaphors. When he’s not dressing up as a muzzie, anyway.

No, the Prince is correct. But these days the truth means nothing.

Of course there are many differences. For example Hitler was a decorated combat veteran, whereas Putin has never fought in combat.

Actually, it is Barack Obama who is most similar to Adolf Hitler. Both wrote books about themselves (My Struggle by Hitler in 1925 and Dreams From My Father by Obama in 1995) when they were nobodies, long before rising to power. They also share a common animus toward Jews.

Vladimir Putin is probably no saint, but the present campaign to blame him for all the world's ills is a contrived diversion. Neither Putin nor Russia poses any threat to the United States or to Western Europe. Barack Obama and the Brussels entity are very real threats to the freedom of both.

I agree. Putin is only a threat to his immediate neighbors.

You're probably right on that. But also, zero has demonstrated himself to be nothing more than Vlad's bugger boy. Appropriate, is it not, in light of Obama's re-institution of the 6969 MOS in the Military: "Adjutant's Bugger Boy."

Just as not every vegetarian environmentalist is Hitler (yes, I know some of them are wannabes), not every irredentist nationalist is Hitler either. Hitler picked up his rhetoric straight from the modern inventors of this mania, the Italians. And by Italians I don’t mean Mussolini. The very term “irredentist” comes from “Italia irredenta” - unredeemed Italy.
Cavour, Mazzini, Garibaldi and that lot were the rather more respectable founders of the fad, that got picked up by every would be demagogue and two bit politician in central and eastern Europe before WWI. It was a fad among liberal intellectuals all over Europe.
And Putin’s brand has its own Russian-Slavic intellectual roots (Slavophilia), which come from that old 19th century liberal fad.

“Italia irredenta” - unredeemed Italy.

I would venture a guess as to what that means to us today. A primitive, earthy, pagan, nationalism that seeks to cast off civilization (Christianity) and seek to live like the phony-baloney "noble savage" imagined by Rousseau.

Am I at least close?

Certain other leaders are starting to resemble Hitler and Stalin too. Way too close to home.

History, whether that of fascists, communists, Balkan Slavs, the British Empire, and virtually every other nation state or empire which can be thought of, begs the question, wherein derives strength from diversity?
