A nighttime drive-by shooting in a student enclave next to the University of California, Santa Barbara left seven people dead -- including a suspect -- and several wounded, authorities said.
The gunfire broke out around 9:30 p.m. Friday in the Isla Vista neighborhood, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's office said. Spokeswoman Kelly Hoover told KEYT-TV a second suspect was detained.
The circumstances surrounding the shootings were not immediately clear, but the station said police cordoned off four crime scenes. They include a deli whose glass window was shattered.
A student told the station he saw shots fired from a BMW, fatally striking one woman and critically injuring another woman.
"I heard shots, scream, pain," Michael Vitak said. "All emotions. I hope she is going to be fine."
The station said a black BMW slammed into as many as two cars.
The shooting prompted officials to issue alerts urging people to stay indoors.
Isla Vista is known for parties, including an annual spring bash that turned into a violent blowout last month as young people clashed with police and tossed rocks and bottles. A university police officer and four deputies were injured and 130 people were arrested.

Social Media (reddit) identified the alleged shooter over two hours ago. The alleged shooter has a youtube channel with some pretty sad/horrific videos of his plans. The video in question, uploaded last night, was asked about at the press conference around 3:00 am. The reporter identified the alleged shooter’s name and the video (his self-identified “last video”).

Was this one shooting, did the shooter off himself, did the cops off the guy or what? First it says the Santa Barbara area and then mentions it happened in a student frequented area then the black BMW struck 2 cars and someone else was being held, for some reason the story doesn’t seem coherent to me. It is early and I haven’t had my first coffee, may be it.

If the mentioned “alleged shooter” at the presser is the same one with the youtubes/bodybuilding forum posts, he is a very disturbed guy whom hated women because they didn’t like him. He lived the rich/hollywood life, yet was tormented by it and now 6 lives are lost. (i’m not counting the shooter’s life) and 7 are injured. He had been vocal about his unhappiness. I wonder if he was on medication?
Interesting video of the loser creep. Even if he could get a girl into bed he would have lulled her to sleep with his boring conversation before anything happened. And the loser couldn’t even get his fantasy right of going into the sorority house and killing all of the girls.
Obviously he had several screws loose. Too bad those types can’t be committed before they ruin the lives of so many people, and so many families.

Yes. He even mentioned in a forum that he (the alleged shooter) had to take his youtube videos off his channel because his parents saw them. Apparently he uploaded them again yesterday. People on the bodybuilding forums saw his videos also (before the shooting) and he (the alleged shooter) had an active thread going on about why girls didn’t like him.

A lot of the threads that the shooter was on (the bodybuilding site) have been deleted the last hour. I have no doubt that someone has already preserved them, as well as the youtube channel the “alleged shooter” uploaded to.
Thailand today may be much more dangerous than that campus.
Hope she doesn’t go there.
