Horrific crime. I thought the French attitude toward adultery was "c'est la vie"? Oops.

Also, this is a sign that knife control is needed due to the easy availability of knives: "Mr Leboucher is said to have been having an affair with the wife of another villager, who got hold of a knife and attacked the mayor at his home."

The perp got hold of a knife.

Serial killers have nothing on a jealous enraged homo with a Bowie knife...a former neighbor had a gay son that was stabbed 35 times by his “roommate” in a jealous fit of rage. The prosecutor won the case and the conviction when he took the murder weapon and stabbed a piece of cardboard 35 times in front of the jurors. Try it. Act like you’re stabbing the air 35 times. I did just to see what it must have looked like. I would def have voted guilty no doubt.

I guess he was giving him one stab for each year of his life because he was around that age at the time. If he were 34 and it was his birthday....never mind...: )

Adultery destroys families. Destroyed families produce destructive children, and with them a ruined nation.

There is a reason for that Commandment, just as there is a reason the left is obsessed with its converse.

I agree with you. Adultery in this day and age is treated too lightly. The shock to a person when it is revealed that a trusted spouse has committed adultery can be overwhelming. A simple review of many appellate opinions regarding murder reveals that many such killings arise out of adultery. Killing is real social harm directly caused by betrayal. Secondly, wide spread adulteries lead to a cynicism regarding peoples trustworthiness, and rightly so. Thirdly, adultery leads to the destruction of families and the failure to support children thus burdening the taxpayer. Fourthly, it leads to the spread of disease. Fifthly, the winking at adultery leads to a laxity towards law breaking. There can be no excuse for the behavior

The punishment of adultery became out of fashion due to problems of proof which reason when weighed against the harm occasioned by the widespread nature of the wrong is not sufficient reason to stop punishment. The punishment does not have to be savage, merely a bit of jail coupled with shaming. It took time to reach today's laxity it will take time to restore moral behavior.
