ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith refused to backdown on Friday after he came under fire for defending Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cubans comments about bigotry in a recent interview. Despite being labeled an Uncle Tom and a sellout by some in the black community, Smith made it clear that he stands by what he said 100-fold.
Smith went on to argue that what Cuban said is 100 percent correct. The commentator also addressed the elephant in the room, which he said many white people wont talk about out of fear of being labeled racist.
I look at our unemployment rate consistently being double that of folks in white America. I do understand that, to some degree, theres a level of racism that we all have to overcome but that doesnt mean every single issue is race related, he said. Sometimes it is about how you represent yourself, it is about how you present yourself.
He wasnt even close to done:
When I talk about not having a command of the English language, and still you want a job, and you want to have a career, but you dont want to get your education, you dont want to go out there and pound that pavement. Everythings about the sprint, its not about the marathon, its not about you putting forth the necessary effort and due diligence over the long haul to get the thing you need. Thats a reality in our community.
Liberals just can’t accept the difference between prejudice and racism. Like I said yesterday in another post, in the 1980s in New York city I was robbed 3 times by Obama sons, my brother was cut on the neck by an Obama son (but survived) so when I see an Obama son walking toward me late at night, guess what? I am going to be prejudice as hell about him.
I know that the VA has always been a place of last resort for health care, but if you need it, it supposed to be there for you. Many older veterans go there when they cannot afford the deductibles on their own insurance, or Medicare is not covering. Many of the veterans at the VA thought that the VA would be uniquely qualified to treat their old war injuries and related psycho-trauma, which can be a delayed reaction.
I knew a veteran from WWII, the battle of the Bulge, who had no memory of his experience until the old war injuries started giving him trouble in the late 1970s. Then, everything came flooding back. He was a biochemist for a large chemical company, a PHD, but he went to the VA with his problem.
Stephen A. Smith, you have joined the ranks of Bill Cosby and Dr. Ben Carson ... black men of character who have taken a lot of sh!t for speaking the truth.
Instead of holding the VA up as a model for government medicine (before all this horrendous behavior got a lot of publicity) the VA should have been shuttered like the crazy insane asylums of the past, and our Veterans should have all been given vouchers so they could shop for open market insurance plans.
That was before the open market insurance plans got destroyed by the Democrats.
Democrats are vile and evil.
Refreshing to know that there are a few decent, honest and intelligent people still around.
Glad to see some push back on this BS.
It is past time that we open an honest dialogue.
i have liked this guy for along time because i enjoy his ranting and raving during football season... but since last December or so, when i first heard him address the “black” issue, i have just come to love him more and more...
As long as withholder, not-so-sharpton and j-jackass are breathing, not gonna happen.
The largest bigots and most hate-filled racists in the room will be the individuals with the most preferred victim status, based solely on skin color. .If people want to use skin color as an excuse to wage war on their fellow citizens, then they shouldn’t complain when people of different colors or cultures turn on them.
These incidents happened about 50 years ago. It is worse today :(
As a note of trivia, Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was not a black who scrapes to the white man, but the Christlike figure who dies for all of our sins. The use of it as a pejorative demonstrates the ignorance and illiteracy of our putrid culture.
We call him here Screamin A Smith but he is actually a cool guy..he has appeared on Mark Levin’s radio program a few times..not sure if he votes Republican or not but he is not the type of guy that backs down from his beliefs
Interesting! I used to be familiar with the story, some 40 years ago as a kid. I, too, am guilty of misremembering the lore. Good share!
Look its not racist if people react to a persona your project ...be it an intentional or unintentionally look
Look I’m a big white guy and truth is I’m scare looking ..I just am...I have a physical hands that adds to it..I joke I look like a mass murder. ..and I do have people react
I just had this a few weeks back..I was to do something work at a business so I was waiting at the door for it to open...
When the morning man (a very gay guy) came to open up..no way was he’s letting me in...he ran in and locked the door behind him....I didn’t blame him..
Now the truth is I could of pulled a guilty trip on him being prejudiced because I’m physical handicap. .but I don’t do that..i think its crappie to do that.
So if your ANY race and your deliberately try to project a thug persona to be cool or to have “street credit” . you have no reason to complain when people react to it.
People are not running from black guys that look like Urkel..
And then do run from white guys that look like extras from the Road Warrior...
Or even just white guys that look like me
The whole Cuban overreaction is from WHITE liberals who think they are some defenders of the black folks that they look down upon. I know a bunch of young black dudes and EVERY one of them say Cuban was just being open and honest and we need more of that. It’s only pansies on the left/media pushing this because they want another PC scalp on their mantle.
