I had an eye operation done by a civilian doctor last July. The VA would not cover that operation because my vision was not yet bad enough. The VA doctors were very apologetic, but said they had to follow Medicare guidelines or get fired.
$5,500
I have no service connected disability and get full coverage. I pay $9 per 30 day prescription and get two doctor checkups per year for free. And since I’m diabetic I get eye glasses for free.
There is a $25 charge if I go in with a cold. And I think I have to pay $1,100 or something like that if I’m in the hospital more than ten days. Not sure of the exact terms.
It probably has to do with when we served. I was in from ‘69 to ‘73. I think it’s different for those who served after ‘74.
Correction. I did download the forms on line and filled them out and mailed them in.
