On May 24, the family of Santa Barbara shooting suspect Elliot Rodger released a statement through their attorney saying they are "against guns" and support gun control.

On May 23, their son allegedly shot and killed 7 people, including himself, and wounded 7 others. Breitbart News reported his motive was "retribution" for women who had rejected his advances.

Nothing about the three who were stabbed?

Guns bad. Knives OK?

I understand the family’s desire to address, “mental illness and the ramifications from not recognizing these illnesses.”, but there are a large number of mentally ill individuals who don’t harm anyone.

There is evil in this world, and we just witnessed another evil act today.

There was a time in America when Rodger’s father perhaps accompanied by one or two male relatives would have marched into his disturbed kid’s apartment confiscated the guns privately and cut off all the generous financial support before this lunatic started shooting. Period. That’s the kind of gun control that is effective.

I think they would be better served calling for more mental health aid and institutionalization of disturbed people like their child. This playing the gun card is BS, their warped, sick child that they raised is to blame for the carnage not a tool. Does anyone really believe he would not have still killed if he did not have access to a gun? Hell he was driving a weapon!

I get this... They raised a monster in their left wing entitled world. The spoiled him rotten and now they want to blame guns instead of the kid and how he was raised.

We get that, sure we do.

But in the end when he went on his murder spree it was men with guns who stopped the worthless monster.

The next time you need help call someone with a movie camera.

You won’t hear about the three men stabbed to death, you will never hear about them again, like they never existed, the weapon used to kill them doesn’t fit into the media anti gun narrative

In a sane world, this horror show of a family takes a long vacation to a place where the people don’t have televisions.

In this country, they’re given a political platform in the national media to campaign against the Bill of Rights.

It doesn’t even seem real anymore.

Since cops these days want to overturn the 2nd Amendment and disallow guns (except for themselves), it benefitted them to do a rotten background check on this psycho so as to forward their agenda.

less than 100 people in the USA die in “mass shootings” per year

2.5 million home invasions per year

40,000 deaths per year in car accidents in U.S.

these mass shootings are statistically non-existant events.in other words you have more of a chance of getting hit by lightning than being shot by a mass shooter. there a trillion to the trillionth power events ever year in the USA. the media picks a few of these events to make them the top news of the month . the media does this to advance the democrat agenda , grow socialism/government

any thing can and will happen in a country of 330 million people. you have 1% chance of getting audited by the IRS . even that is a small chance. the media makes this a crisis. it is not just as other flukes are not real problems

“...they are “against guns” and support gun control.”

Convenient, huh?

Easier than taking responsibilty for their evil spawn and pathetic parenting.

Reminds me of Benghazi Barry Soetoro-—never take responsibility; ALWAYS blame something else. (I’ll bet they voted for the offal-in-office.)

I suppose it is just human nature to want to blame someone (or something) else for the murders committed by one's own son, followed by his suicide.

Yes, it is probably natural enough. But that does not make it correct.

Why are we not surprised.

However, before you start disarming America; maybe parents should start with their own children. He had THREE (3) legal guns .. why wasn’t he stopped from purchasing guns when the parents knew he was unstable ..??

When are parents going to be willing to admit there is something wrong with their own child ..??, and seek help for them. They obviously had finances .. more than enough to provide him with the care he needed.

I’m sorry, but the parents need to take responsibility for the deaths of all these young people at the hands of their son.

I do not understand why the family reported him for being unbalanced but did not separate him from his gun.

The notion that we all get separated from our 2nd amendment rights to sooth the families troubled brow is disturbing.

I do feel their pain and sorrow.

I do not know the family’s history or the shooters history, all I know is the family were distressed by his attitude and asked for help to stop this from unfolding.

They are under duress at the moment, but new gun control laws are not the answer.

I’ll just bet there was a recent exercise for UCSB or SBPD and an active shooter scenario. Always seems to precede one of these anti-gun rants. I’m detecting a pattern here.

The problem is the where they are placing the blame. The implication is that the guns were at fault as well as his mental illness.

Whether or not his parents tried to help their son, I do not know. One thing is for certain; their son owned three guns, appeared to have a psychological problem, had never been kissed, was a virgin, and expressed hatred toward women. He killed and injured innocent people today using his guns, a knife/knives, his own car, and committed suicide.

My condolences to all of the victims and their families.

It's the anti-gun Nazis' wet dream. And they were loaded for bear at a moments' notice.

The Brady Bunch and every other liberal playbook was all warmed up and ready.
And the outrage was Oscar material.
You know, maybe it's just me, but the last persons I want to read about, or hear what they might have to say is a murderer's parents.

And now 14 CA representatives who haven’t had an original idea in their pathetic heads since they did finger paints as toddlers will offer bill after bill restricting one more or ten more aspects of gun rights. While the parents, the father in particular, get to work on his next shoot ‘em up movie that I wouldn’t go to if you paid me.

LOCK UP THE CRIMINALLY INSANE. THE MEDICATIONS MAY MAKE THEM “PASS” FOR NORMAL BUT THEY ARE STILL NOT LEGALLY HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. THEY REQUIRE A LEGAL GUARDIAN KEEPING TABS ON THEM AT ALL TIMES.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR THEM. THE GUNS ARE ONLY A TOOL. THEY ALSO KILL USING CARS, POISONED PILL BOTTLES, KNIVES, ETC.

“If I had a son, he would look like Eliot?”

Families of the deceased should SUE the parents for all they are worth for raising this monster man-child and then blaming guns for their raising a spoiled kid with a sense of narcissism & entitlement.

And SUE THEM for GROSS NEGLIGENCE if they knew he was mentally ill and didn’t take more steps than they did to corral him and protect others.
