As a shooting spree leaves seven dead in California, the gun lobby is trying to thwart attempts to study gun deaths and officials who see gun violence as a public health crisis.

Yet another massacre occurred last night at an institution of learning, this time the University of California, Santa Barbara. The price we paid for the National Rifle Association’s “freedom” was seven people murdered and seven injured at nine different crime scenes.

Because the CDC just did one of these study's and determined increased gun laws did not reduce violent crime. In fact the opposite happened. Having a re-study done is telling the CDC that they didn't like the outcome so get it "right" this time.

My point exactly. Horrific that anybody died, but, 3 of the deaths were by stabbing, not shooting. So this writer immediately calls credibility into question, with such a major factual error of what happened. A shooting spree did not kill everyone.

Every single weekend in Chicago a half dozen young black people are shot to death by young black people.

There has never been a single documented case of a dues paying NRA member committing mass murder with a gun.

Every one of these recent mass gun shootings has been done by a liberal or the children of liberals.

None of these people in Santa Barbara were killed by a gun. They were killed by a liberal psychopath who bought his guns with money given to him by his wealthy liberal parents or they were run down by the psychopath with a car bought by his wealthy liberal parents or stabbed to death by the psychopath with a knife bought with money given to him by his wealthy liberal parents.

The perp apparently never worked a day in his life. Yet he could afford a new BMW and money to buy at least 3 guns and 400 rounds of ammunition.

Half of his victims were stabbed to death. Where is the call to blame the National Knife Association?

The problem is not the weapon, but the values of the person who possesses the weapon. Schools no longer teach traditional values. Churches are abandoning traditional values. Traditional values are mocked by the society and we end up with narcissistic psychopaths who think they can become somebody important if they just kill enough people before they kill themselves.

“Leave it to a flaming @sshole to claim that seven people were killed in a “shooting spree” when half the victims (the shooter who killed himself isn’t a victim here) were stabbed to death.”

Just another SP Jew from NYC. Israel can thank us for keeping him here.

This will die out when someone finds his family voter registration. In Hollywood it can only be Democrat.

The NRA didn’t disarm the victims, people like the author did.

Any word on what SSRI drugs the evil idiot was taking before he went berserk?

His own "manifesto" claims he was taking Xanax and vicodin.

The Natl Rifle Association's Freedom? Bull cookies. My 'freedom' comes from the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

One screwed up spoiled child does something like this and the rabid anti-gunners are out to disarm the entire country. He used a knife also. Where are the people wanting to ban all knives?

In Britain, knives can’t be pointy any more, they have to have rounded ends like kindergarten scissors.

I say ban all BMW’s!

yet another young, white male... devoid of social skills, relegated to the world of video games for ALL human interaction, being given powerful anti-depressants like Xanax.... snaps, and kills a bunch of people

He didn't "snap". He had been planning this for over a year. I don't see any evidence that he was on any kind of medication. If and when that comes out, then maybe you can take that position. However if he was not on anti-depressants then your theory is not advanced in this case.

re: “ The price we paid for the National Rifle Association’s “freedom” was seven people murdered and seven injured at nine different crime scenes.”

This guy, of course, has absolutely no understanding of the Constitution. By his reasoning, any freedom we enjoy, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution - if, someone abuses that freedom, then we must get rid of it?

The absolute crap/lies that are printed everyday and passed off as “journalism”, the filth that is recorded as “music”, and pornography that is filmed as “art” are all abuses of the First Amendment. I guess, by his reasoning, we need to “regulate” freedom of speech. Although, now that I think about it, he probably IS in favor of censoring conservative opinions and viewpoints. Leftwing liberals only want “selective” or “preferred” groups to have “freedom” of speech or the right to defend oneself with a firearm.

What idiocy.

Maybe it is time to look at the real root of this violence, liberalism. From what I have read, his parents are devout, practicing liberals, and what do liberals believe? Everyone that doesn’t adhere to their beliefs are evil, unintelligent, and unworthy. When a kid grows up thinking everything around him is bad, feeling guilt, and accepting aggressive disobedience as an acceptable way to express dissatisfaction, I think this violence is pretty predictable. In some ways, liberals are like Muslims. They grow up with hate for everyone that doesn’t belong to their belief system, and some will act on it.

“Does the fact that the cities in our Country with the TOUGHEST gun laws also just happen to also have the HIGHEST MURDER RATES register at all with you?”

They would just interpret that to mean the gun laws are not yet tough enough! Might as well go outside and yell at clouds.

Thanks, I think that makes it 99% of the people who go nuts and use whatever is close to kill lots of other people are using these drugs.

What will it take to wake up and realize these virtually untested, unreliable and dangerous drugs do not do the job the advertising says they will do?

Unless... scary thought, the point of these is to turn the average American into a raging maniac or a compliant sheep. Who would gain there?

If anyone reading is taking one of these drugs for any reason it would be worth considering another way to solve your issue.

These drugs are prescribed because of money regardless of the perceived ‘benefit’ to the victim paying for them and taking them.

Articles like this one, that provide no opportunity for feedback are worthless propagandist pieces. The first thing I do with these screeds is quickly scan to the bottom, and if they are devoid of a comments section, they are ignored in their entirety. We already know what they say, so why even waste the time?
