TEHRAN, Iran – A billionaire businessman at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam, the largest fraud case since the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution, was executed Saturday, state television reported.

Authorities put Mahafarid Amir Khosravi, also known as Amir Mansour Aria, to death at Evin prison, just north of the capital, Tehran, the station reported. The report said the execution came after Iran's Supreme Court upheld his death sentence.

Khosravi's lawyer, Gholam Ali Riahi, was quoted by news website khabaronline.ir as saying that his client was put to death without any notice.

Which is more appropriate justice - to hang a corrupt banker or to force taxpayers to bail them out? In the USA corrupt officials, be they Pols like Corzine or big donors always get a pass, while average taxpayers and shareholders typically get the bill.

As a member of what the GOP-E hopes is a vanishing breed (the TP) I strongly believe that the USA needs to start holding white collar criminals severely accountable with punishment that serves as an actual deterrent.

Re: “A billionaire businessman at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam.”

Not sure I trust the Associated Press or the Iranian legal system enough to take their word for it.

China also has a billionaire on trial for his life.

My first instinct is that these two guys fell into political disfavor, and their fortunes are being confiscated by corrupt politicians and judges.

Iran’s methods are extreme, but better to make bankers and such accountable than reward them for stupidity as the US has done.

By far the biggest crook in Iran (and perhaps the world) is the supreme leader himself - Ali Khamenei - who controls a net worth of $95 billion!

Hopefully the tyrant will meet his maker soon....

He probably failed to bribe the right people, or refused to pay extortion, or was the scapegoat for some scheme that half the government was in on. They wanted him dead fast, before he could begin to name his accomplices and co-conspirators, who are probably the same individuals who hanged him.

I wonder if those banksters who threaten to relocate to a foreign country should the U.S.A. reinstate Glass-Steagall, would consider Iran as a possible new location for their financial antics.

My humble belief (not that I claim to be correct) is that we need a government with mission of total ethics for America, that is about USA sovereignty first, that is responsive to the total citizenry of the USA, not just donors and Parties, and that prosecutes corporate corruption just as aggressively as it punishes crooked politicians and crooked citizens.

Bottom line is we need fair and balanced opportunity for all and punishment for all. Those with connections and money need held to held to the same standard as others.

I'm thinking Greenspan, Bernanke, Yellen, Geitner, and Simon took note of this and think they have got America fooled. And you know what? They do because the NEA has dumbed down education in this country to the point 90+% of its citizens don't know theft when they see it.

Sheesh, I’m surprised POSOTUS didn’t bail him out and MOSOTUS didn’t #freeAmir.
