Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson will huddle with House Democrats next month in a meeting that's sure to focus on potential changes to President Obamas controversial deportation policies.
Obama has asked Johnson to examine ways the agency can implement those policies more humanely, and many Democrats are pressing the administration to scale back deportations in the name of keeping immigrant families intact.
The June 10 gathering a meet and greet breakfast with Johnson and Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee is being framed as an opportunity for members to sit down for the first time with the DHS chief to discuss a range of issues in a private setting. But a Democratic aide described Johnson's deportation analysis as the natural topic of discussion. The Homeland Security panel includes several Democrats representing border districts, including Reps. Filemon Vela (Texas) and Beto O'Rourke (Texas), who are members of the liberal chorus urging Obama to rein in deportations by focusing enforcement efforts on violent criminals and others who pose a threat to the country.
Specifically, the Democrats want the president to expand his deferred action program, which allows qualified undocumented residents who came to the country as youngsters to remain and work without fear of deportation, to a broader swath of immigrants.
If Congress isn't going to do anything, the White House should take action on its own, Vela told The Hill Thursday.

+1 My thinking exactly. There’s some political hay to be made pointing that out to the MSM.
When it comes to Americans, like Clive Bundy, we hear pronouncements about this being a nation of laws. That doesn’t apply to illegals whose treatment is spelled out in the Immigration and Naturalization Act.
“no Republicans/political hay”
Yeah, I’m sure the administration’s Ministry of Truth would appreciate having that point brought to their attention so they can get right on it and ..........
This is soetoro and the left's way to "fundamentally transform" America. Cloward / Piven.
Even if today's illegals never vote their anchor babies will.
America as we knew it is gone and the GOPe stood by and watched it happen.
Put a bug in the room!
But Obama already "focused" his immigration efforts...he let 36,000 violent criminal illegals out of prison.
I hope the Obama regime’s lies about how many illegals they catch and deport bite them in the rear! They have been trying to indicate how efficient HHS and the BP have been by counting the people turned away at border crossings and not allowed to enter the US as ‘deportations’.
The red herring about ‘tearing families apart’ is garbage. If the parent(s) are being deported for being in the country illegally, their children must go with them. The kids are the responsibility of the parents, not the US taxpayers. ...If the kids were born in the US then they can apply at a US consulate to return as a US citizen after they reach the age of majority.
Oct 1 to May 17, there were 148,000 crossing the border in South Texas. It is an invasion.
Obama works hard to make life easier for the illegals and we Americans are being kicked to the curb..The Marine held in Mexican jail cannot get this kind of help from team Obama..Obama had time to be calling the Cambridge police “stupid” for arresting Skip Gates.Obama had time for : “If I had a son , he’d look like Trayvon: Obama had time to comment about Donald Sterling Comments ‘Incredibly Offensive’.No time for the Marine held in Mexican jail. But illegals get more time and attention than we Americans..It ani’t right.
the GOPe stood by and watched it happen.
Actually, they facilitated it.
Hope and change.
That’s what Barack Obama promised — again and again and again..Obama must have been addressing this to the illegals.
