Taxes, no; migrants, maybe

SOMETHING curious is happening on the right of American politics: immigration is losing its potency as a driver of voter anger. Just ask Chris McDaniel, a Mississippi Republican who represents the Tea Party’s last, best hope of toppling an establishment grandee in 2014. Mr McDaniel hopes that grassroots Republicans will ditch Senator Thad Cochran, a four-decade Washington veteran, and instead choose him as the party’s Senate candidate for mid-term elections in November.

The elder Barbour offered a parable to explain local views about “violators of the border”. Imagine cooking burgers in a backyard when an intruder “crawled under the fence” to eat one, he ventured. “Would you offer him a second one, and later maybe invite him to stay the night? I don’t think so. You’d set the dogs on him, or call the cops.”

[snip]

If Congressional leaders balk again, shame on them.

Roger Wicker had to change his vote and Trent Lott had to resign due to the backlash they got.

“Five hundred [calls] yesterday, and right now, they’re just ringing non-stop,” said an upset staffer at the office of Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker, who has voted on both sides of the dispute.

Establishment Republicans’ reasons for relenting on illegals are twofold: 1) they’re getting pressure from agriculture and manufacturing/processing interests who want cheap labor - the social and public financial costs be damned (over corporate profit), and 2) it is much easier to bleat, make excuses for their own incompetence in leadership and exercise of responsible power by saying “we need Hispanics on our side to win” when nothing could be further from the truth.

In other words, establishment R’s are like Obama, blame everything but the kitchen sink for the party’s problems. They’ve been out in the wilderness so long they forgot the 10 Commandments. The one or two times they did make it back to a point where they could do something, they acted like they were suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome and did nothing but spend like drunken sailors.

Fie on them! A pox on their house! May their beds be infested with bugs of the worst demeanor!

We're losing the battle over illegal aliens because we're allowing the Left to control the terms of the debate, and how the issue is presented. For example, when you hear some whiny liberal say something like, "they're only looking to be reunited with their families", counter with something like "no, they're breaking into our homes, stealing our stuff, and often killing us. They're also running up the cost of health care, education, and prisons." When you hear the old Jorge Bush line, "they're only taking jobs Americans won't do", answer with "no, they're taking American jobs!"

The Lefties try to pull our heartstrings by saying, "they're only looking to better their lives!" The example I use is that I'd like to better my life, too, but you won't catch me holding up liquor stores or stealing cars in order to do it.

We have to quit avoiding confrontations on this issue, and a whole lot more. Speak your mind, even if it means pi**ing off your brother-in-law, or the hot new sales rep chick you want to ask out. If she's a CommieLib, the relationship wouldn't have worked, anyway -- I know this from experience.

And for cryin' out loud, can't we get some people who know how to put our message in a package that the low-information types will accept? Maybe something like this?
