UKRAINE: Reflections of election ^ | 5-26-2014 43 minutes ago | Yuri Butusov, Contributing Editor/Tsenzor.NET

And now the results aren't important and hands-an unprecedented turnout, unprecedented democracy and openness of the elections took place, NOT because the majority of Ukrainians suddenly created for yourself an idol. No. This vote is a vote of confidence the PEOPLE of State of Ukraine.

It is a sign that the people recognized that no matter how difficult and scary it may be, many, many millions of people have decided to live together in an independent Ukraine. It is a sign that the people of this state , and considers this power IT'S OWN! That stability in this country should be created now.

And I hope that if Poroshenko and Vitaliy Klitschko correctly realize that they have in their hands not a prize and a trophy, but the responsibility for this great trust, they will be able to build up a system of work.

Because if the country's leaders as in 2005, will not put things in order, and "pressing", not punish, and "solve", does not create, and "log in", the intoxication of power will last very long. The Ukrainian people will show that changes in Ukraine is not replacing the portraits on the walls of bureaucratic offices (it's time to unlearn all the wacky Soviet habits). Changes in Ukraine: a change of consciousness and responsibility. Ukrainian is not someone who suffers and fails, Ukrainian is the one who decides and makes. Thanks to all compatriots, who who managed to unite for the sake of a free Ukraine.

Eternal memory to those who gave their lives to bring this day closer, but could not live to see the day on May 25. Our attention is to those who lie in hospitals with doctors fighting for their lives.

But friends, have no illusions - May 25 we have not yet become a real full-fledged state. Yes, we have not yet become.

But we became a nation. And we are in the beginning of this journey.

Ukrainians in the US (I live in one of the major concentrations of Ukrainians) are known as intelligent, resourceful, and accomplished. I do hope that this new President can bring it together. It does seem that the people did not choose an extemist, perhaps instead a patriot.
