Poroshenko Pledges To Step Up Anti-Terrorism Operation, Bring Success Within 'Hours,' Not Months
Kyiv Post ^ | May 26, 2014

With most votes counted, presumptive President-elect Petro Porshenko gave his first post-election press conference on May 26 - with Kyiv Mayor-elect Vitali Klitschko at his side - and talked about the need to intensify Ukraine's anti-terrorist operation against seperatists in the east while talking peace with Russia at the same time.

The billionaire oligarch who has taken all political sides since Ukraine's independence outlined two priorities: restoring peace after months of Kremlin-backed war and restoring economic growth after months of recession.

Despite expressing a willingness to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin and seek a peaceful resolution to the Kremlin-instigated war, Poroshenko vowed to more aggressively pursue the nation's anti-terrorist operation to root out terrorists in the Donbas eastern oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk.

"I am not going to hold any dialogues with the criminals. You don't talk to terrorists," he said. "The anti-terrorist operation will not and cannot last for months, it will last just for hours."

He pledged to immediately improve the army's supplies and equipment. "From now and on our soldiers will be much better equipped and much better supplied, all of them will have life insurance and high salaries," Poroshenko said.

So he can talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.

Before this loud mouth does anything, he needs to get all those pro Ukraine billionaires together and contribute money to their armed forces who is trying to defend their Ukraine. On paper the Ukraine should have the third largest ground army after China and Russia. Problem is these rich politicians looted the gov budgets, result is the third largest army is short of basic infantry items such as helmets, uniforms, load bearing equipment, boots and even rifles with plenty of mags and ammo. I haven’t even started on modern stuff like body armor, night vision and tactical radios or moved onto larger items such as tanks and APC. A country like Pakistan is in better logistical shape then Ukraine. Once you establish a large and effective Army then Russia cannot take the rest of Ukraine, and the new Ukraine leader has military and political options. Vietnam taught the US one lesson, cannot win a war with an ally that wants you to do everything and their officers/leaders skimming the aid for themselves.

BIG fight going on, right now, at Donetsk Airport. The terminal can be seen to be on fire in several vids. lots of gunfire and explosions.

Rebels moved in last night to take control of it, and today Kiev has launched what looks like the biggest attack yet. Around 3 attack helos, and 7-8 transport helos, supported by two jets, landed at the airport a couple of hours ago.

Twitter is blowing up with pics and video of the op.

Tweets from Roland Oliphant, UK Telegraph:

644Am: There’s a fighter circling over Donetsk. Taxi radio says something’s burning at the airport

700Am: It is burning. Lots of smoke rising.

703Am:Apparently it’s the hangers (taxi cb radio, I can’t get much closer).

7:30 AM: Intense gunfire in bursts every few minutes

736AM: And the occasional thud that sounds like a mortar or smth. Guessing Ukrainian garrison is surrounded. Rebel gunmen on neighbouring streets

7:55 AM Really difficult to tell who is on the offensive here. Oh there goes a few big bangs.

809am: Someone flanked someone. Fight appears to have spread into streets south of airport north of train station. Gunfire heard from both sides.

0835am: Young rebel tells me it is definitely the Ukrainians on the offensive. But it is massively confused here.

0939am: One civilian killed at the station by stray fire from direction of airport. Must have been fired maybe a mile or more away.

0947am: Can still here gunfire from here ar the station, but distant. Choppers flying low

This proposed crackdown is likely the event Putin has been hoping to stir.

This will not go well for the government in Kiev.

Various twitter reports say one or two Kiev helicopters destroyed at Donetsk airport.

Heavy rain has stopped air ops, but fighting is still going on.

To solve the terrorism problem, kill them early, and kill them all. Do not accidently kill anyone else, just terrorists.

When terrorists roughed up/kidnapped Russian diplomats, Russian special forces went in and killed the terrorists quietly one-on-one. Left their bodies on their doorsteps. In some cases, wives and children of terrorists too. After that, No Problem.

Learn this lesson well.

Liking this Porshenko already, moving fast to clean out the Russian terrorist scum in the east on day one. Any Russian on Ukraine soil that won’t salute the Ukrainian flag drop them on the Russian border.

Next sanction the crap out of Russia till they get out of Crimea.

Western investment can flood into Ukraine and the Russians can fight and rob each other at home.

I guess this answers your question of whether the new government will just roll over and let Russian nazi terrorists take over half their country. Nope, they are going to exterminate the Russian terrorists.

Apparently Porshenko thinks he can fly into Donestsk airport on a victory lap. I hope they also elected a vice president. They may need one.

Maybe he really is a follower of Vladimir Putin.

“Apparently Porshenko thinks he can fly into Donestsk airport on a victory lap”

It doesn’t sound as if it is working out that way. We’ll see...

I wonder who the brainiac was that thought storming the airport with a couple of hundred airborne troops, while trying to push down the railway with a couple of hundred more was a good idea??

I understand the logic, striking at the heart of the problem, but did they think the reports of 2500-3000 armed separatists in Donetsk was just BS?? Did someone believe their own propaganda?

The funny thing is that (as we both know) there's a bunch of your beloved mongoloids trapped in Sloviansk, that's where the real fun will begin :)))

You’d think the Russian propaganda would cease after the Election defeat of the Russian wannabees and the Russian foreign policy failure.

If they subversives haven’t surrendered at this point...they are not innocents. They are dead enders who deserve death.
