Concerns Over Police Brutality After a Bronx Arrest Goes Awry (Rev. Sharpton Defends Knockout Gamer)
NY Times ^ | 5-24-2014 | MICHAEL SCHWIRTZ

Posted on 05/26/2014 8:38:34 AM PDT by equalator

Authorities said that Javier and his friend, who was not identified, were walking in the vicinity of East 189th Street and Arthur Avenue in the west Bronx when they saw the 49-year-old man and asked for a cigarette. The man later told investigators that when he refused and turned to walk away, one of the boys punched him in the head and another hit him with a backpack before running off. He suffered minor injuries. Then, officials and witnesses said, the sergeant grabbed Javier and pushed him hard against the window of the hookah store, shattering the glass and badly cutting Javier’s head and body.

I don't think anyone can excuse the police sergeant for what he did. It was a freak accident, but he essentially assaulted the kid for mouthing off.

On the other hand, Sharpton would have a lot more creditability outside his social circle if he had publicly acknowledged the kid wouldn't have even been detained if he hadn't previously assaulted someone else.

“Javier, who did not speak at the news conference, lifted his shirt to reveal a gash held shut with stitches. Javier also had a cut on his forehead and a stablike wound to his chest, where glass penetrated his lung, his lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein, said.”

Glad to hear he’s already got his “bottom feeder” lawyer.

Sounds to me like the store had glass that was substandard and not up to code. It shouldn’t break that easily.

Javier and his friend . . . saw the 49-year-old man . . . punched him in the head and another hit him with a backpack . . . He suffered minor injuries . . . The official said it was clear Javier was being “verbally belligerent.

I can't work up any sympathy for a thug who assaults a law-abiding citizen. He's 14, too young for his own parole officer, but I expect him to harm a whole lot of decent people before he's finally killed "a good boy . . . aspiring rapper . . . just as he was turning his life around".

I got this a few years ago when I slammed some idiot’s face on a table for trying to steal my newspaper. The cop asked if the paper was worth somebody’s life or well being? I said yes, and the idiot should have thought of that before he tried to steal. And what about my well being? If I am to submit to everyone who threatens me and give over what ever they want, I am little more than a slave to their whims, and, if you believe that a war was fought over slavery, yes, it obviously is worth a life, many lives.

Hit someone and you suffer the consequences Al. The cop metered his response and grabbed him. He did not intend to slice him in a window. He certainly was more restrained than I would have been.

No respect for his fellow man.

‘As the sergeant turned to walk away, Javier shouted an obscenity, Mr. Goodwin said. The sergeant turned around, grabbed the back of Javier’s neck with one hand, and pushed him into the glass.’

No respect for the authorities.

“I don’t care what he said,” Mr. Sharpton said at the news conference, a police officer “does not shove a handcuffed child.”

Hey, Al! Maybe if his parents had taught him to show a little respect toward others, Javier wouldn’t be in the spot he’s in now.

If you were a real man, Al, you’d humiliate him in front of the cameras by telling him that it’s his fault and the fault of his parents for their lack of parenting, and then turn his @$$ around, make him bend over, and spank him with a board of education.

This just gives Rev. Al a few minutes in the spotlight.
Never mind that the young man assaulted a person on the street.
They should charge the young man and let him stand trial.

This is a different world. I had to look up “hooka store” to find out what it is. These places have enough business to be open past midnight!

Do people wake up at midnight with a sudden hankering for a hooka, get dressed and go find a store that sells these things?

Baffling.

Officer 1, punk ass kid zero.

The little smart ass thought he could run his mouth with no consequences.  Sorry folks, not buying it.

If the officer is treating you wrong in the first place, then object all you like.

If you're being arrested for trying to knock someone out from behind, don't go the high and mighty route.  You'll lose every time.  And you should.

H.L. Mencken once wrote of a police officer who was convinced that it was physically impossible to hit a suspect on the head with a nightstick *too hard*. Somehow avoiding wrist injury while thumping suspects this way, the officer was befuddled when his superiors asked him to use his club less. He confessed that times were changing, and not for the better.

If we brought back the stocks and whipping post, we would be seeing a lot less of this sort of crime by ferals.

Maybe he didn't deserve to get thrown through a window. But 15 lashes and 12 hours standing in the stocks in the hot sun peeing down his own leg and getting garbage thrown at him might give him some perspective on what it is to be "civilized" to his fellow man.

My "sympathy meter" didn't wiggle a smidgen for this little criminal. I hope his stitches infect and Al Sharpton gets mugged by one of his homies and everybody laughs and steps over him.

You are wrong. If police are allowed to administer “street justice” to mouthy teens in handcuffs with impunity then next they you know they’ll be doing forced colonoscopies for traffic violations.

Oh wait, that’s already happening.

Unreasonable use of force is unreasonable use of force even if the victim is a rotten little puke.

There was a time when police knew when to use force and when not to. Unfortunately, today leaving that punk alone would have made no difference whatever to the epidemic of police thuggery against law abiding citizens or their increasing disregard for the 4th Amendment. If it would, you might have a point. But it doesn’t, so you don’t.

I would've "caned (50)" and "stocks" the feral,
then ordered restitution paid to the 49er.

IF (the rev.) objects, jailed & fine 'em, (disturbing the peace)
, IF he objects again; THEN administer the "caning/stocks"
to (the rev.) and drive him out of town.
the City Gov't can sell tickets to the events.

The reason there is an epidemic of police thuggery is because they’ve been excused for doing it against criminals for so long.

Abuse and rights violations are like a cancerous tumor on the body politic. If you don’t cut the tumor out, it grows and spreads and consumes the body.

The fact that you can’t see that allowing the abuse of criminals leads to the abuse of non criminals makes you a sheep.

Nope, police used mild forms of street justice for generations without any appreciable spill over. The problem today has to do with other factors, including the spread of a liberal/totalitarian mindset.
