Valerie Plame and Obama’s Double Standard on Outing CIA Personnel
~ntpage Magazine ^ | 5-26-14 | Daniel Greenfield

Posted on 05/26/2014 11:15:13 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Hoping to distract Americans from his death panels for veterans, Obama made a Bush style visit to Afghanistan and managed to cause even more harm to national security by outing the CIA Station Chief there.

The Democrats did their best to turn Valerie Plame into a martyr even though the only danger that the leftist faced was fewer invitations to cocktail parties. That didn’t stop Hollywood liberals from churning out a movie about her complete with action scenes.

Will the same standard hold for whoever outdated the CIA Station Chief in Afghanistan? Unlikely. The official narrative is that it was an accident. But if you believe that it’s an accident, then you also have to believe in the complete and total incompetence of Obama Inc. when it comes to security issues.

There’s a case to be made for that, but considering the deep-seated resentment of the country in the upper echelons of this administration, it was more likely deliberate.

Unlike Valerie Plame making her cocktail party tour, the CIA Station Chief in Afghanistan is at actual risk.

~snip~

The list of names was sent by email to reporters traveling with Obama on his surprise Afghanistan visit and included in a “pool report” shared with correspondents and others not on the trip.

The Post said the White House issued a revised list deleting the CIA official’s name after it recognized the mistake.

The newspaper said its White House bureau chief, Scott Wilson, who was on the trip, copied the original list from the email provided by White House press officials and included it in a report sent to a distribution list with over 6,000 recipients.

Is anyone going to be fired for it?

Meanwhile, the Republicans in DC continue to cower under their desks, afraid of being called racists by the lap-dog media.

To be fair, the Plame leak nearly got Hillary killed six years earlier:

"I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

Obama is the smartest man in the history of the world, and I'm sure the leak was part of his geopolitical strategy, one that is working as smoothly as ObamaCare itself.

Now the whole the ROW knows who it is, but the USMSM is not telling the American public. I guess they figure that we are a greater risk to his welfare than a bunch of Jihadi’s.

I see that several major news organizations are not releasing the name of the official. Good, but would they have extended the same courtesy to Bush? I doubt it. They would probably have given the name maximum circulation, and then blamed Bush for the consequences.

In fairness here, no one went to jail for outing Valerie Plame. That’s not to say though that someone shouldn’t have gone to jail for it.

Well, he went to jail for ‘lying’ to the FBI about the Plame case.

Yes, but the person who actually outed Plame - Joe Wilson - got off scot free.

And Bob Novak, who admitted to the outing, barely got mentioned in the whole affair.

Actually David Corn outed her as a CIA agent, not Novak.

David Corn interviewed her husband (Joe Wilson), and he is the one you published it first.

Richard Armitage and Robert Novak could both make the case that they believed Plame not to be an "undercover" operative. The first account of anyone reporting that Plame was "undercover" was David Corn's story that came out a few days after Novak's. In that story, Corn specifically stated that Plame was "undercover" - a classification that Novak and Armitage did not know about. In fact, both Novak and Armitage got their info off the street.

So the focus now rests on Corn who somehow was the only one reporting that Plame was "undercover". Later, Corn would admit that his sole source for the story was Joe Wilson. Thus, Joe Wilson was the one who outed Plame as an "undercover" CIA operative, which is something that Armitage did not do.

"In fairness here, no one went to jail for outing Valerie Plame. "

Judith Miller (then a NYT reporter, now with Fox)went to jail for refusing to divulge her source (which turned out to be Colin Powell).

The really weird thing is that the guy who ACTUALLY outed Plame was Richard Armitage, who was exempted from prosecution or any punishment or even any criticism by the Mainstream Media because he was insufficiently conservative, and thus an undesirable target for the demonization he would have caught if he had been seriously conservative.

They shouldn't worry about it. Who says 6,000 reporters can't keep a secret?

Look at Fast and Furious, the IRS Scandal, Benghazi, the Birth Certificate, AP spying, NSA abuses, arms to Al Qaeda, massive energy and industry shutdowns because of the EPA, massive voter fraud, stealing of land for federal monuments, hundreds of billions of dollars missing through waste/fraud/abuse and crony corruption, massive unlawful behavior on ObamaCare, etc. Nary a peep. Nobody knows a thing or says anything about any of these, right?

So why worry? The Secret is safe with them. Nobody will know.

Richard Armitage

Yep, the democrat went scot free. The whole circus act by the left was a joke. Plame didn't want Armitage, she was just acting as a stooge for the left.
