Tea party takeover of Texas GOP is nearly complete
Dallas Morning News ^ | 5/27/14 | Gromer Jeffers Jr.

Posted on 05/27/2014 6:28:53 AM PDT by jimbo123

There’s panic in some quarters of the Texas Republican Party.

The movement conservatives are poised to strike a mighty blow in Tuesday’s runoff elections. If all goes well for these tea partiers and libertarians, they will be on the way to taking control of critical statewide offices and key seats in the Legislature.

The list includes Dan Patrick for lieutenant governor and Ken Paxton for attorney general.

The crowd already scored a victory in Dallas with businessman Don Huffines’ win over incumbent state Sen. John Carona.

So how did this all happen?

Republicans have had solid control over all parts of Texas politics since 2002, when, led by Gov. Rick Perry, they demolished the Democratic Party’s so-called dream ticket. The GOP took control of the Texas House for the first time since Reconstruction.

And they ushered in a new era of conservatism, which showed in the laws passed through the Legislature and signed by Perry.

In 2009, however, the national tea party movement injected new energy into the GOP. In Texas, the movement was embraced by Perry, but other big-name Republicans were slow to spot the trend.

After all, a lot of these folks were the extreme activists that dominate the discussions during the formulation of the party platform at state conventions. They talk about leaving the United Nations and returning to the gold standard.

Why would someone like Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, for instance, want to get involved with the fringe of the party? Now Dewhurst is fighting for his political life against Patrick.

How would it help state Rep. Dan Branch, Paxton’s rival for attorney general, to attend some patriot rally, when there’s a chamber of commerce luncheon with potential political donors in the room?

Continued success depends on secure borders. Period.

...and not importing too many red doper diaper babies with the new industries...

Any Freepers able to advise on the Wescott vs Meyers slime-fest?

Wescott’s campaign disgusts me, but Meyers is presumably a RINO.

And the primary impediment to continued success in Texas and elsewhere will be “The Architect”, Karl Rove, and his American Crossroads PAC, which, in many cases, is nothing more than a stalking horse for progressives from both parties.

You can tell that the author is a Democrat. My favorite hypothetical he suggests:

“Regular Republicans are going to have to learn how to execute the principles of old-fashioned politics. They can do that by borrowing from their Democratic Party rivals from Northern states and get away from the elitism that discourages the big tent.”

Hoo! What a stinker. First of all, what he calls “regular” Republicans are what we call “liberal” Republicans. Unless he is referring to “mineral oil regularity”. Which makes no sense, in that they are still filled to the brim with poop.

Second, “borrowing from their Democratic Party rivals from Northern(sic) states and get away from the elitism that discourages the big tent.”

Liberal Republicans have been preaching the “big tent” for a decade or more, and clearly demonstrated that it is a dry hole. They are indeed “elitist”, but big business and lobbyist elitism. Their affiliation with the multinational controlled Chamber of Commerce shows who they think their constituents are.

And it sure isn’t the conservative majority.

The GOP-e is in the same position as the pro-business Whig party was, supporting slavery because it was “good for business”, though the rank and file were adamantly anti-slavery. And the Whig leadership also refused to surrender their reigns of power, until the rank and file deserted them and formed the Republican party.

This time, however, the rank and file are slowly and methodically eroding the power of the GOP-e, to that happy day when we take over the party and tell them and their cronies to take a hike.

Here’s hoping that Konni Burton can smash the “moderate” (i.e. closet liberal) Mark Shelton (who could not even beat the ultra liberal Abortion Barbie in Texas) to smithereens.

"Why would someone like Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, for instance, want to get involved with the fringe of the party? Now Dewhurst is fighting for his political life against Patrick."

------------------------------------->

I think ALL of his ads/messages against D. Patrick have been dirty mudslinging against D.P.

He brings nothing to the table except his fear of losing and dirty politics.

Hope Texans show him how, in a BIG way, that dirt is not appreciated in the Lone Star State.

Go, Dan Patrick!

Inclement weather in parts of Texas might show a low turnout.

They talk about leaving the United Nations and returning to the gold standard.

But staying in the UN and printing fiat money is "sensible," right?

"Except for Cornyn......shame."

---------------------------------------->

People, who didn't want to see Cornyn reelected voted for him anyway because the other Republicans were virtual no-names.

The thought that Cornyn had the best chance to defeat Dems while other Repubs would quickly sink into nowhere with a strong Dem vote against them because people didn't really know Cornyn's primary losers.

Can't say for sure, but heard talk radio fellows discussing this line of strategy.

Or, "strategery" as George W. Bush might say!

Apologies if this has been kinda' posted. Haven't had morning wake-me-up yet.

If America “had a dream” to live prosperous and free,
Then the dream must killed, and consumed you see.
The Obamavultures continue feasting, while Boehner sits still,
“Both” parties know our pain as required collateral damage to fulfill.

What word did our Doormat Republicans not understand,
When Obama was first crowned The Tyrant of the Land?
Was it “Fundamentally” or “Transform” or “The United States of America?”

Why are these confused Leader Doormat Republicans still kept in power?
Why haven’t our TEA Party House Members sent Boehner to the back bench?
What does it take be it Benghazi, NSA, IRS, DOJ, or Delay to Death of our Vets?
Who are the Patriot House Members of “both” Parties to vote out Boehner?

When do We, the People rise up and declare that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!?
When do our elected House Members stand and deliver?
When does the well-deserved Impeachment of Obama begin?
When do our House Constitutional Checks and Balances kick in?

Back in DC, things are as calm as can be,
Obama lies, frames, blames, denies and delays,
Allowing the Obamavultures to feast as before,
While Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, Ryan, and Issa,
Hold open the race to the bottom door - - - -.

It is time, - - - - time a change in 2014.
