Tea Party topples Texas Lt. Gov.

Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) has lost his GOP primary, ending more than a decade in office.

The Associated Press has called the race for Texas state Sen. Dan Patrick (R), a hard-charging conservative who focused on illegal immigration. Patrick led Dewhurst by 64 percent to 36 percent with 9 percent of precincts reporting.

Dewhurst, a self-funding multi-millionaire, had finished well behind Patrick in the first round of voting two months ago. The race had gotten increasingly nasty in the closing weeks of the campaign, punctuated by the release of Patrick's mental health records. The lieutenant governor, first elected in 2002, never really recovered from his hard-hitting primary loss to now-Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) two years ago, and was vulnerable to a challenge from the right.

Democrats are hopeful that their nominee, Texas state Sen. Leticia Van De Putte (D), will have a shot now against Patrick in the general election due to his hardline conservative views,. Though Democrats are optimistic about Van De Putte and gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis (D), any statewide nominee for the party still has a steep climb in Texas.

Ever notice that no matter how crazy and authoritarian a lib is, he’s never referred to as “hard line” or “extreme”?

So for the last decade, Hispanics have only cast 20 percent of total votes cast in statewide elections. That’s got to go up toward 30 percent before the Democrats can get competitive.

Oh, of course. Elizabeth Warren is “middle of the road,” “mainstream,” etc.

They weigh things so far to the left that anything to the right of close to the middle of the left side is CRAZY RIGHT-WING NUT JOB!

Jerry Patterson learnt that immigration is a bigger issue than guns.

“In Texas, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson joined business and faith leaders in calling for House Republicans to set aside ideological objections, and embrace an overhaul of immigration policy.”
http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/tag/jerry-patterson/
“We have some people who are just catatonic in their opposition,” he said. “I guess you could call them nativist. They’re not going to get it and no matter how much you talk to them they keep coming back to some bumper sticker cliché – `well, I’m against amnesty.’ My response is well, I am too.”

The biggest impediment to action in the U.S. House, in his view, “is just frankly having the guts to do what they know should be done.”

Proves my point again...money is NOT everything in a elections. The candidate means lot more than money. The CEO of eBay lost in CA, CEO of HP lost in CA, Nelson Rockefeller lost, and many other millionaires lost.

The GOPe backing any candidate with money does not guarantee success. Influence of GOPe is exaggerated. Many Tea party types win with GOPe opposition. That includes Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. Because they are skilled politicians. Many really good conservative candidates have lost because they are not skilled politicians.

Congrats to Mr. Patrick in TX. He defeated another man with money with establishment backing.

Harris County will be about 33% of the R run-off vote. Patrick will carry Harris by 2 to 1. Dewhurst won’t be able to make that up even if he runs better in the rest of the state...and he won’t, at least not by much.

You shouldn’t be lumping a rino/libertarian like Paul in with Cruz, especially tonight.

This is about Texas conservatism tonight.

Yahoooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ding dong dewdrop the dope is done.

First good news on the political front in awhile.

Now, Patrick..... stop the relentless march of property tax increases. It is out of control. The property taxes are higher than the house payment and they are trying their very best to increase them at 10% a year! That is double every 7 years or so.

“Of course, you will probably campaign for the Democrat candidate and try to screw the WINNER.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened. Can’t you see him and Patterson teaming up just out of spite.

That’s probably the best thing about Douchehurst going down - the massive direct slap to Carl Rove in his home state.
