Gun Control's False Promise: The Isla Vista Massacre Reveals the Emptiness of the Anti-Gun

The day after his 20-year-old son, Christopher, was shot down at a deli in Isla Vista, Calif., Richard Martinez blamed his death on "craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA." Gun-control advocates quickly seized upon Martinez's remarks, using his grief to obscure the illogic of their position.

None of the items on the anti-gun lobby's wish list makes sense as a response to the crimes of Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old college student who murdered Martinez's son and five other people on Friday night. Far from demonstrating the lifesaving potential of gun control, the Isla Vista massacre, which took place in a state with firearms laws that are among the strictest in the nation, exposes the false promise of policies that aim to prevent violence by limiting access to weapons.

Don't be a tool for rights usurpers. No problem with the kids stabbed or those injured by a BMW? Only those shot are valid?

Oftentimes grieving people make stupid remarks. The fact is, we can't ban mental illness and so these things happen.

Anti-gun people believe that no one should own guns because someone might go crazy and start shooting people. Pro-self defense believers know that you can’t put that genie back in the bottle.

True.
My cynicism ‘kicks in’ and I think of Giffords and that ‘tool’ husband of hers, Caroline McCarthy(?-NY), Brady(’s), Cindy Sheehan, Sandra Fluke etc, all ‘in it’ for the publicity and some making money off their ‘tragedy’.

I am really surprised ‘they’ haven’t run that Giffords for higher office.

Wasn’t it the ‘founder’ of MADD that eventually, though she got ‘rich’ ended up with a few DUI’s or her own?

They want the notoriety but can’t always handle the pressure the fame brings with it.

This may have been prevented by the father.
Seems Elliot was so concerned he was a virgin.
Father could have spent some money and got Elliot a ‘date’/hooker.

Richard Martinez blamed his death on "craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA."

he needs to be told that had his son, or one of the others in the deli had a gun, Elliot Rodgers could have been taken out...

To the best of my knowledge, with a state legislature dominated by Democrats, the NRA is effectively impotent in the State of California.

There's a reason California has an A- rating from the Brady Campaign. (2013 State Scorecard)

Information regarding California gun-control is readily and easily available, via the internet:

Firearms FAQ: State of California Department of Justice Office of the Attorney General

Also, if you read the following, you'll see that California is a gun-control advocates' utopia.

Center to Prevent Gun Violence: California Law Summary

In fact, the only "gun control" to have been block in California, are some measures vetoed by Gov. Brown, in Oct. 2013. And to the best of my knowledge, Gov. Brown is not a member of the NRA.

Don't waste your time...the guy is a liberal criminal defense attorney. Facts just get in the way of letting off 2-legged vermin to become recidivist.

Had his dead son perpetrated this massacre and survived, he'd be singing a different tune and vigorously defending him.
