give Martinez a pass, he is out of his mind right now with grief and looking to make sense out of the senseless
it happens when you lose a kid in such a shocking and unfair way
However, our SHAMELESS liberal politicians need to STOP using grieving parents as poster children for their own anti 2d amendment agendas
Someone should eventually steer Martinez to a real cause- crusading for better mental health providers and services, accountability for their malpractice, and a law with the balls to identify psychopaths and commit them against their will for a thorough evaluation- then admit that some humans, even from childhood, do not deserve to walk free among the rest of us
I wonder how many psychos Martinez has set free on other parents, as a defense attorney?

I have nothing but contempt for a person who uses their dead child as a political tool. He is something like the male version of Cindy Sheehen. The murder of his son does not give him the right to take away the rights of other people. He wants to punish law abiding gun owners but has nothing but hugs and kisses for the father who raised the freak who murdered his son.

You had gun control. What you needed was Son Control.
And if you try to take my guns from me, you’ll need a LOT of extra security....

What country can we export him to that has the gun control he desires?

Who knows what any of us would say at the horrific loss of our child, BUT...he sure had his talking points lined up awfully fast....Even in grief, an agenda prevails? I've avoided making comments earlier, because like you said - tragedies can affect people in different ways - but ... his son's body was barely cold and he was out making public political remarks. Rather than making funeral arrangements, mourning for the loss of his son, comforting his wife, and other loved ones -- he's out wrapping himself in the mantle of his son's blood and advocating government confiscation of firearms.
After mourning a few weeks, it would have made more sense for him to advocate that Government reduces the obstacles that put in front of our ability to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights and protect ourselves from the crazies and criminals. The guy comes off as someone with an agenda, and he's more than happy to use his son's death as a platform and a launching pad for his new 'career'.

He should forget his interest in being an anti-gun activist and instead figure out how he can help people with mental illness, which is what the kid suffered from.

I would appreciate it if this man and his demon spawn son would stop attacking our civil rights.
We had nothing to do with the crimes you son committed.
But you did, because you made him.Richard Martinez is NOT the father of Elliot Rodger. Martinez' son will killed at a deli, by Elliot Rodger.

He's a criminal defense attorney by profession, so he's devoted his life to keep the bat**** crazy and criminals free. Of course he doesn't see himself in any way responsible for this. But he is. He would have fought tooth and nail to keep Rodger from being committed to a psychiatric institution.
Sympathy for him as a grieving father, but absolutely no sympathy at all for him sloughing responsibility and waving his kid's bloody shirt.

Respects to the dad for the loss of his son.....California has some of the nation's toughest gun laws and not one stopped the kid from doing what he did.
He keeps up with this public call for gun control and he will begin to lose empathy.

Not the perps dad. One of the victims dad. Who is a criminal-defense attorney. No doubt if the son he lost was not a victim, this asshat would have lined up to defend the perp if he hadn’d popped himself.

There’s a good chance his son would be alive today, if others had been armed. Now he wants to disarm all the others.

Half the victims were stabbed to death. Clearly we need knife control laws. some states do have laws on knives...believe it or not.
