Jared Polis — a pro-pot, video-game playing congressman — tries to win over his party
Washington Post ^ | May 27, 2014 | Ben Terris

Posted on 05/28/2014 11:33:02 AM PDT by Second Amendment First

Rep. Jared Polis will gladly visit a marijuana dispensary in his home state of Colorado. He’ll stand in a fluorescent-lit room with hundreds of skunky plants, discuss the different types of high someone gets from Willie’s Wonder versus Super Lemon Haze (one’s a “creative upper,” the other “uplifting and euphoric”) and ruminate on the local ban on edibles. Just don’t try to take his picture in the grow room.

“It’s like, that could go viral,” Polis says, leaving Choice Organics in Fort Collins. “I don’t shy away from the issue; we talk about it, whatever. But the problem is, we get so many more invitations to talk about it than other things, so it seems like that’s all I talk about a lot — when it’s really not.”

His chief of staff, Dan Turrentine, chimes in: “And let’s be honest, the audience in D.C. is a little different than out here.”

This is something new for Polis, the 39-year-old self-made millionaire member of Congress: He is starting to care what people think about him. The same guy mocked by GQ for his sartorial choices — known as Congress’s chief video-game enthusiast, the first member to accept bitcoin donations on the day it became legal, and a top spokesman for legalizing marijuana — now wants to be taken seriously by the establishment. That doesn’t mean he’s about to start going along to get along. It just means he’s looking for a change in style.

Perhaps so. I knew this peculiar gay guy some time ago. He described how he was buggered in the school shower by another dude, and that seemed to be his defining moment. It was rape.

Pot clubs don’t allow cellphones or cameras to be out anyway-—or so I am told.

Pot legalization is a still a touchy subject among the Democrat Party platform. The fear is the voting public getting fed up of jobless "stoners" mooching off the public taxpayer that welfare reform could become a lightening rod with the opposition Party (That would be limited government conservatives).

“IOWs he’s a typical Democrat.”

Maybe it is senseless to discuss whether a bear is bigger than a mountain lion since both are extremely dangerous predators that will eat you, but a bear is bigger than a mountain lion and Jared Polis is distinctly worse than the average democrat.

Jared Polis: To Know Him Is To Loathe Him.

Polis, then known as Jared Polis Schutz, sold Bluemountain.com, his family’s online greeting-cards website [ that he inherited ? ] , to Excite@Home for $780 million, including $350 million in cash that Excite couldn’t really spare. Excite sold it for $35 million in September 2001, and filed for bankruptcy a month later. People still talk about it as one of the most spectacular cashouts of the dotcom boom.

I disagree. IMO all Dems today are just like Jared Polis.

He probably says the same sort of thing when he visits a sex dungeon.

His dabbling in a wild weed is the LEAST of his problems. And he has plenty of problems.

Agreed. CO Democrats are less subtle than CO Republicans about their support of libertine behaviors and big government, but both are effective at keeping real conservatives out of politics and business.

Not a pot expert, however, I had one co-worker who smoked on occasion that was able to work circles around everyone else. On the other hand, I knew more welfare moocher pot-smokers.

I don’t discount a genetic disease factor for homosexuality, but being raped as a child is definitely a cause for some of them. Didn’t Mark Foley say he was diddled?

This creep looks like he likes em young. Those pages better be careful.

So he likes weed too huh, maybe legislating under the influence should be a crime.

Funny - the headline says he is trying to “win over his party”, but the sizable excerpt fails to mention the party he belongs to.

I wonder what THAT means?!? /sarc
