Nick Clegg survives coup plot as chief critic quits party

Nick Clegg appears to have survived an abortive coup attempt to oust him as leader of the Liberal Democrats after the ringleader of the move quit the party on Wednesday.

Lord Oakeshott, a long-time critic of the deputy prime minister, announced that he would resign from the Lib Dems and stand down temporarily from the upper chamber after Vince Cable, the business secretary and his long-term ally, distanced himself from any attempt to attack Mr Clegg.

I can’t claim to be an expert on British politics but I do follow it closer than many Americans.I may be wrong but I can’t help but think that recent events...including this...have brought a smile to the filthy lips of Red Ed.
