John Newton, chief knowledge officer at the government agency Public Health England, told The Times: "We have to look at the environment in which people are living, and the constant pressure to eat unhealthy food means things are particularly a problem for girls more than boys."

Can you believe this BS? Girls are fat because of fast food commercials, which impact them more than boys. I can't even begin to fathom the logic of this.

Maybe they’re fat because they don’t need to worry about attracting a man when the socialist government will be their “husband.”

...only thing I can consider is activity level, many more boys are engaged in sports. Although that has nothing to do with unhealthy food and “constant pressure” being higher for girls.

Guess the study should have included American girls as well, they might have come out with a different winner.

Go to a mall and do some “people watching” some day, better yet, stop by your friendly Walmart. You want some really BIG ones, try a mall near the inner city (enough said, I rest my case)

Lancet abstract.

Findings Worldwide, the proportion of adults with a body-mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m2 or greater increased between 1980 and 2013 from 28·8% (95% UI 28·4—29·3) to 36·9% (36·3—37·4) in men, and from 29·8% (29·3—30·2) to 38·0% (37·5—38·5) in women. Prevalence has increased substantially in children and adolescents in developed countries; 23·8% (22·9—24·7) of boys and 22·6% (21·7—23·6) of girls were overweight or obese in 2013. The prevalence of overweight and obesity has also increased in children and adolescents in developing countries, from 8·1% (7·7—8·6) to 12·9% (12·3—13·5) in 2013 for boys and from 8·4% (8·1—8·8) to 13·4% (13·0—13·9) in girls. In adults, estimated prevalence of obesity exceeded 50% in men in Tonga and in women in Kuwait, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia, Libya, Qatar, Tonga, and Samoa. Since 2006, the increase in adult obesity in developed countries has slowed down.

Woman Tired Of Hollywood’s Obsession With Perfection
http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/25129175/woman-shows-good-self-esteem-tops-perfection-obsession#ixzz2xeJJd1o4

(FOX 11 - Los Angeles) A Los Angeles woman says she’s tired of Hollywood’s obsession with perfection. So, she’s doing something drastic right in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard to show other women that it’s perfectly fine to be large and have good self esteem.

While you may or may not agree with Amani Terrell’s method, no one can argue with her message of loving yourself at any size. Amani weighs 260 pounds. She knows she has to lose weight. In the meantime, she refuses to be down on herself. She says, “You can not seek validation from other people. This world is very cruel. You must seek validation within yourself and be kind to yourself.”

Amani decided to strip down to her bikini in the very busy Hollywood Boulevard to show the world that women are beautiful at any size. While most people had a positive reaction...some, not so much. One guy yelled that he lost his appetite. Another sarcastically called her “Precious”.

Amani responded like this, “That was very unkind but that’s cool because I love myself.”

I don’t know much about Gates’s wife. But early photo’s of the two show them to be a lot like Hill & Bill. Although the Gates looked cleaner than Hill & Bill in the 1960’s.

Tried to find the photo that I referenced, but my memory was faulty.

It was of the early Microsoft staff and Bill Gates. He did not marry Melinda until 1994. I did not realize Gates was so much younger than I am. He was born in 1955.

Here is an interesting bio on Bill Gates.

Or that they know they can still get a guy. I see young, not bad looking guys with fat, muffin top flashers all the time. I am perplexed. I see groups of young guys out with all their fat girlfriends. Sometimes the guys will be overweight but not usually.

So, yeah, when all your peers are large, when they are making all the cute, latest clothes in your size and you are all wearing micro minis with your flesh pouring out the sides--there isn't even that natural competitive drive to work harder to look better.

When I was a youngin'--I remember that come spring all the magazines would feature articles about getting your "bikin butt". And that was what we did--worked like mad to get into bikini butt shape. I have a daughter who is 16 (and thin), I ask her something about it and she thought I was nuts for worrying about such a thing. Times have changed, fat is the new black, I guess.

I remember the era. I drooled over the MIT computers. I was living in NM then.

Built my first PC from floor sweepings in 1982. It was a Z80, dual 5-1/4 floppies, tape drive (no hard drive), 64K (yes K not MB) of RAM, and a green phosphor monochrome monitor.

Yes I remember. Still have that stuff in a corner cabinet in my Ham Shack.
