Speaker John Boehner's friends are trying to design new, more effective punishments for the conservative members that might vote against him on the House floor come January, but the message from the right is, don't even try it.
Look, intimidation tactics and threats do not take the place of leadership, Rep. Jeff Dunacn (R-SC) told Breitbart News.
I feel like the embers are gathered on the fire pit, and there just needs to be a spark for the flames to go up, a senior GOP aide said, predicting the move could backfire.
Boehner's allies, as first reported by Politico, have been quietly plotting how to prevent a small group of conservatives from denying Boehner a victory in the speakership election next January, something that members on the right have been actively discussing.
Under House rules, an absolute majority of members voting for a person is required to be elected Speaker, making it possible for a small group to cause a deadlocked vote.

boehner is on the wrong side of history
Conservatives better have more backbone than they did in 2012, when they threatened and backed down.
If they back down again, they deserve being treated like pariahs.
To figure out Boehner's political inclinations, all you have to do is look at the media organization his allies leak to. Do they leak to Breitbart or the Washington Examiner or even Nat'l Review. No, they leak to Politico. That tells you everything you need to know politically about Boehner and the allies he is close to.
If they back down, they do need to be treated like pariahs.
With that tan all I can think of is "If it's brown, flush it down".
I wouldn’t put it past the despicable faux “conservatives” Boehner and /or Cantor to ally with DemocRATS in the House, where necessary, to work their will. I’m sure that the pro-Amnesty RINOs Boehner & Cantor admire the Texas RINO Speaker of the House Joe Straus who has employed similar strategy/tactics in Texas to obtain/maintain power and to thwart the will of the conservative Texas Republicans.
Straus, in alliance with a handful of other Republican RINOs and the DemocRATS, has maintained himself in power for years in Texas. I don’t know if there will be a sufficient shift in the makeup of the Texas House in the 2014 election to allow him to lose his position as speaker, but I sure hope so.
But above all, I don’t want the RINOs to continue their dominance at the national level.
I have the same suspicion. The silver lining would be that all pretense of the 'pubs representing anything that constitutional conservatives believe in would be over. It would be the end of the Republican Party.
That might be a good thing. If the conservatives formed their own party, they could ally with different groups to get agenda items passed.
An honorable man would decline it if it didn't come with his own caucus' support. It is called a "caucus vote" after all.
Boehner will take it however he can get it, especially after floating stories last year of declining to seek the Speakership in 2014. That was just a ruse to defuse a simmering revolt against him in 2012.
If I was in the house and I got word that Boner was working with the democrats, I’d secretly work a deal to get Pelosi elected and watch the surprise on Boner’s orange face. Talk about bawlin’! They can always revote the next day.
If they don’t have the gumption to get rid of him then they will have to live with it.
So will we, for a while
