Tea party: Don't toss out Eric Cantor
WND ^ | 5/29/14 | William Murray

Posted on 05/29/2014 6:55:17 PM PDT by jimbo123

Move to defeat House majority leader: I agree with much of what the tea party stands for and many of the efforts of leaders within it to elect conservatives. The tea party, however, is not one group; it is thousands of major and minor groups across the nation, and it is not possible to agree with all of them or for all of those groups to agree with each other.

Some Virginia tea-party groups are leading the charge to oust House Majority Leader Eric Cantor from his Seventh District seat. These groups have chosen David Brat, a college professor who appears to lean more toward Ayn Rand than either traditional or social conservatism. Brat was once an appointee of former Democrat Gov. Tim Kaine, although that does not automatically make him a liberal. Social conservatives will find a rather lofty but vague pro-life statement listed last among issues at his Internet site. Many of his other positions seem to be libertarian in nature, which makes sense as many tea-party groups are moving in that direction.

The biggest tea-party accusation against Cantor is that he is “too establishment.” The fact that he can move jobs and investments to his Seventh District seems to be a liability to him with tea-party members. It is, in essence, the tea party saying: “The fact that Eric Cantor is the second most powerful man on Capitol Hill and can bring jobs and benefits to our district is proof he is too establishment and we need to get rid of him.”

I appreciate a lot of what the tea party does, but in some of the groups there is a real lack of understanding of the Constitution that is waved around at meetings, when it comes to the duties of congressmen.

Never paid much attention to WND to begin with—I’ll ignore it completely going forward.

Yep. The watch phrase for the next two election cycles:
“It’s the Amnesty, Stupid”

The author engages in an explicit straw man argument. He fabricates an entire quotation as if it were actually attributable to a Tea Party member somewhere, when he just made it up.

I've never heard a problem with Cantor getting spending done for his own district. I have seen Cantor get blasted for working hand in hand with the establishment members who want to go on the offensive against those who are identified with the tea party. He certainly didn't have any use for Ted Cruz fighting against increasing our indebtedness.

This clown doesn’t get it. We oppose Cantor because of his pro-illegal alien/amnesty stand. I don’t care if his ACU rating is 1,000% or how many jobs he brought to his district. Any Republican that supports amnesty should not get the support of conservatives.

So it's a good thing according to this author that some representatives are more equal than others and can thus lure more businesses and jobs to their districts via politicking.

Sheesh.

So the Constitutional duty of a Congressman is to bring home pork?

How stupid are you?

Do you call yourself a conservative?

If you do you are giving us a bad name, stop it.

Murray is a nobody, and I’ve never seen anything else from him on WND.

Doubt that we’ll see much from him.

The biggest tea-party accusation against Cantor is that he is “too establishment.”

And there is a big lie, right there in the second paragraph. The biggest accusations are that he supports amnesty, and is being a two-faced liar about it. Aside from that he’s a squish on anything that matters.

Okay, then they are both bad. Get rid of the incumbent.

Cantor needs to go

I live in Cantor’s district. the author of this piece doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Eric was for amnesty before he was against it or is it vice versa - I just can’t tell any more. He’s arrogant and out of touch. He holds fake town hall meetings. He’s been trying to slate off (remove) real conservAtives from the Republican Party all around the state. He’s voted to,expand the debt ceiling many times and increase spending just about as many times. Some how he’s become a multi-millionaire in just 14 years in congress. For those who, support him - tell me what he did during the time when Republicans had control several years back. The answer is nothing and that’s exactly what we will get from him if he is re-elected.

Murray has nothing to do with the TEA Party movement.

Mark Levin had Brat on today in the last half hour. Sounded like a pretty good guy to have in the House instead of Cantor.
