Via the Standard, I need to correct the record. Yesterday I predicted that Pryor would join the mob of red-state Democrats frantically pushing Shinseki under the bus to protect themselves. I wrongly assumed that leaving 1,700 vets in Phoenix to twist in the wind on a secret wait list — a scheduling problem the IG explicitly said was “systemic” — would qualify as a firing offense, especially considering Shinseki had five years to right this ship. Not to Pryor, apparently. He needs to see more before his conscience is sufficiently troubled to pull the plug.
Update: Via new Hot Air editor Noah Rothman, here’s former White House deputy spokesman Bill Burton arguing against getting rid of Shinseki because the GOP would have a field day with confirmation hearings for a new VA chief. In other words, Obama’s political comfort level is more important than firing inept bureaucrats. That’s how “urgent” this crisis is.
Latest poll has Tom Cotton ahead of Pryor — this little statement ought to increase that lead dontcha think.
The discussion today seemed to be that the Dems want to keep Shinseki around long enough for the VA to air all their dirty laundry and take all the blame.......then under the bus he goes.
Well...its a bit different than any perspective provided here.
As Marc Levin and Rush have noted, the problem is with the embedded bureaucracy, who grow their empires irrespective of who the political appointees happen to be at the moment.
One correction, if you will, it’s not a “scheduling problem”, it a systematic denial of care problem.
Shinseki is working out the way most affirmative action hires do.....
This has to sink him for good. This is awful.
I keep telling everyone Pryor is an idiot, I rest my case!
In the Arkansas Senate race between incumbent Mark Pryor (D) and Rep. Tom Cotton (R)—Cotton currently represents Arkansas’s 4th district—Pryor is in serious danger of losing the cushy seat that has been in his family for nearly three decades . . . thanks, Daddy! And, in a manner that would make Harry Reid proud, Pryor has resorted to a pathetic, yet typical, personal attack on his opponent’s character. The area he chose to attack? Cotton’s military service.
“There’s a lot of people in the Senate that didn’t serve in the military,” Pryor told NBC News. “Obviously in the Senate we have all types of different people, all kinds of different folks that have come from all types of different backgrounds—and I think that’s part of that sense of entitlement that he gives off is that, almost like, I served my country, let me into the Senate. But that’s not how it works in Arkansas.”
There’s a Democrat general solution to problems: “Let’s let this boil fester until we see signs of blood poisoning. Then we can lance it, treat the patient with antibiotics and blame Dr. Bush.”
Funny how a good many Democrats are willing to throw Shinseki under the bus to save more embarrassment for this administration, and no one seems to bring up the fact he’s Asian. We don’t need to guess what would would happen if the general were Hispanic or black.
