Salon: Santa Barbara Shooting Victim's Father 'Should Scare the S#*+ out of the NRA'
Breitbart's California ^ | May 29, 2014 | AWR Hawkins

Posted on 05/29/2014 11:20:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On May 29, Salon magazine published a profile piece on Richard Martinez, father of Christopher Michael-Martinez, asserting that the elder Martinez "should scare the s#*+ out of the NRA."

Martinez's son was among the three persons Elliot Rodger shot to death on May 23, after savagely stabbing three persons to death earlier in the evening.

On May 24, Martinez blamed his son's death on "craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA." And according to Salon, the NRA has "finally" met its match and "Martinez should have them shaking" because he offers "a direct rebuttal to the LaPierres and Palins in this country."

(Never mind that Salon offers a perfect example of everything that is wrong with politicizing tragedy, and even Mr. Martinez's agony.)

Salon says Mr. Martinez understands what is at stake, just like "Sybrina Fulton--the mother of Trayvon Martin." And they warn that the gun rights supporters will try to destroy Mr. Martinez before he can accomplish the mission he is on: "The pro-gun crowd is going to come out hard against him, just as they have turned on other parents and survivors."(continued)

The undeniable reality with which the gun grabbers have not dealt except by dissembling is that, short of total confiscation of all guns such as we see in Europe, the more guns they grab the more they render the innocent defenseless even as they empower criminals.

They dissemble because they cannot go before the American public and reveal the truth that their goal is not to tinker around the margins of gun ownership rights but total confiscation because, (1) the United States Constitution gets in their way and, (2) the public will simply not stand for total confiscation. Because there is no political will for total confiscation the left seeks to do incrementally what it cannot do in a single stroke and cannot in any case do openly. Meanwhile, every duplicitous incremental step is resisted because it empowers criminals and renders the innocent defenseless. And because alert Americans understand that incremental steps are only stepping stones toward total confiscation.

Because the left's approach is essentially based on a lie, they cannot convincingly argue how each incremental step makes Americans safer when each step makes Americans more vulnerable. In fact, they do not attempt to make this argument, they do not attempt to relate specific regulations with specific crimes because the regulations invariably would simply not have prevented those massacres which give rise to the proposed regulations. Rather, they pander to emotions, to the human instinct to "do something" which is part of human nature but is seldom productive and often counterproductive.

The left also find itself inhibited by another underlying reality: a major part of the American public has lost confidence in the ability of the government to protect them. Americans have lost confidence in the essential fairness of our justice system and in its efficiency. They know that in an emergency situation a 911 call will not save them.

But more fundamentally, they know that the left since before The Warren Court has worked every angle and pushed every lever they could find to nurture a culture of criminality in America. For example, by definition every criminal who escapes conviction because his lawyer succeeds in throwing out evidence resulting from a search that has been declared unreasonable, puts a guilty criminal back on the street.

A second example, when the federal government releases illegal immigrants who are also violent felons into society because it is politically expedient to do so, rational citizens conclude that personal protection requires self help.

A third example and a personal bugaboo of mine, the drug culture which has now infected virtually every strata of our society not only breeds gun violence but finances it. Recently, a thread on FreeRepublic explored efforts in Chicago to prevent their gun violence which Chicago says could be prevented by prohibiting guns from being imported into the city from places where their purchase was legal. Not a word was spoken about how gun violence in Chicago relates to drug business in Chicago. A rational citizens looks at the situation and says, not only is the government failing to protect me but by its policies it is creating an environment that threatens me. I must arm myself.

So long as individualists (that means we conservatives) sense that collectivists are not only destroying our political system but also threatening us physically, we will seek individual solutions to problems generated by collectivists and, of course, we will resist collectivist solutions which fail and which rob us of our liberty.

Mr. Martinez, it is not the NRA that scares the shit of me, rather it is leftists who want "to do something" and can think only in collectivist terms, who in their grief would do more harm than good.

But on the other hand psychotropic drugs can’t do their job if the
the person they are prescribed to refuses to take them. My
understanding is that was the case with this sick individual.
That said, sometimes the meds are just not effective or they might
be prescribed the wrong dosage. I have worked at a sub-acute
care facility for youth many years and have seen both successes
and failures with prescribed psychotropic meds.

Yesterday, I over heard two non-gun owners talking about how unreasonable it was to blame guns and lack of gun control on this and other shootings.
I was surprised to hear them express this as one of these individuals got in my face a few years ago about the NRA’s stance on the then defeated Federal gun restrictions.

When we’re talking about pretty blatant madmen, there isn’t much of a reasonable question. We don’t hide the knives from everybody because a few kooks are obsessed with the idea of stabbing.

Did you know there is a group on FB called Democratic Armed Resistance (or something like that). IT’s ok for them to be armed and to promote being armed because as far as they are concerned they are the good guys. I tried to argue the point with other Democrats on another site that by their very existence they acknowledge the need for guns for protection against whatever others thought were evil - to them though the only evil was the GOP and Tea Party - deaf ears and stupid minds could not see the point!

Well, if war breaks out, they’ll find out pretty soon how outnumbered they are, won’t they?

I read that this idiot is a criminal defense lawyer. If he helped put ONE killer back on the streets to kill again, he is nullified.

He's a terrible spokesman for gun control. While he's rightfully grief stricken over the loss of his son, the hysterics and histrionics in every interview I've seen make people tune out any message he try to convey. Sorry if it sounds coarse, but no one wants to listen to someone break down and blubber at every interview or conference.

What's lost in the noise here is the fact 3 people would still be dead even if we lived in a gun free world. Who knows how many more he would have stabbed if it was the only option.

The young man had a lengthy history of mental issues and was determined to harm people. No gun law could have stopped him.

Why was this mentally ill kid allowed a very expensive car, allowed to live on campus, allowed to buy and consume alcohol, and generally live the life of a independently wealthy man? He should have been kept at home attending a school close to home with a great deal of familial oversight. But he wasn’t and now it’s all the fault of the National Rifle Association. Nuts!

I also understand that Richard Martinez earns a living as a criminal defense attorney.

The NRA (and anyone else who stands up for constitutional rights in this country) would do well to do a lot of research and see if any of his clients committed violent offenses AFTER he got them out of jail via plea bargain, etc. They may find that this guy's successful work may have effectively killed more people than that Rodgers mutant did.

The glaring lack of examples of Historical Success of this Wussy Method, is used to prove that those in the past did not do it the right way, and/or did not do it long enough.

When you visit that Dem Gun Owner site, you may want to protect your anonymity by turning any locating tools off. Most Dems cannot handle the truth and may try to punish you with an online virus.
