Obama’s leadership is right for today
Washington Post ^ | May 29, 2014 | By Fareed Zakaria

... What is needed from Washington is not a heroic exertion of American military power but rather a sustained effort to engage with allies, isolate enemies, support free markets and democratic values and push these positive trends forward. The Obama administration is, in fact, deeply internationalist — building on alliances in Europe and Asia, working with institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations, isolating adversaries and strengthening the global order that has proved so beneficial to the United States and the world since 1945.

... A Democratic Advisory Council committee headed by Acheson called Eisenhower’s foreign policy “weak, vacillating, and tardy.” But Eisenhower kept his powder dry, confident that force was not the only way to show strength. “I’ll tell you what leadership is,” he told his speechwriter. “It’s persuasion — and conciliation — and education — and patience . It’s long, slow, tough work. That’s the only kind of leadership I know — or believe in — or will practice.”

Maybe that’s the Obama Doctrine.

“Because of his unsure and indecisive leadership in the field of foreign policy, questions are being raised on all sides,” the writer declared, adding that the administration was “plagued by a Hamlet-like psychosis which seems to paralyze it every time decisive action is required.” Is the writer one of the many recent critics of Barack Obama’s foreign policy? Actually, it’s Richard Nixon, writing in 1961 about President John F. Kennedy.

JFK was an absolute disaster in foreign policy, worse than Obama and Carter, while they are all similar in incompetence, at least Obama and Carter didn't get us into the Vietnam War.

Ok. "Engage with allies"....name one he hasn't thoroughly ticked off or caused to worry about whether we'll be there for them in a time of need.

"support free markets"....Huh?

"and democratic values"....voter ID harms only minorities?

He's done the opposite of "push these positive trends forward".

“building on alliances...”

***

As far as I can tell, Obama has all but trashed this country's relationships with its allies. But he is doing a good job of bowing down to our enemies.

MAJOR contradiction with FDR 1941 State of the Union address!
“Freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere. Our support goes to those who struggle to gain those rights or keep them. Our strength is our unity of purpose. To that high concept there can be no end save victory.”

the enemy within... writes lies like this ... and we wind up having to respond to them...

meanwhile, they’re busy promulgating more lies.

the Nazis proved in WW2 that their Big Lie technique works to control large populations ... and so they’re continuing it today

just look at the key premise of this article,
quote: “ a sustained effort to engage with allies, isolate enemies, support free markets and democratic values “

to engage with allies....by stabbing them in the back?
to isolate enemies....to make it easier to give them more weapons, money, and training how to attack and kill innocent Christians and Jews?

to support free markets — where is that? certainly not in USA, where they’ve nationalized 1/6 of the American economy (health care industry) and used the vast power of government and expensive mandates to force millions of small business people and their employees out of work

these guys are either deluded (completely out of touch with the real world on Rock Three) or else they are just liars being paid to try to prop up the current dictatorship.

“JFK was an absolute disaster in foreign policy, worse than Obama and Carter, while they are all similar in incompetence, at least Obama and Carter didn’t get us into the Vietnam War.”

The point of JFK’s failure was not so much getting us into Vietnam as setting the police action policy there thus making the war unwinable. We could have after all just left at any time.
We could also have changed the policy to aggressively Go after and destroy North Vietnam before the Soviets and Chinese became too heavily invested there. Vietnam was as much LBJ’s naive foolishness as it was JFK’s.

Both of which seem to think of communist leaders as somehow caring about their people and solders more than their own objectives.

JFK could have just followed General Eisenhower’s policy of not getting into a war there.

JFK had much of the vanity and ego problems, and shallowness as Obama.

FRom Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fareed_Zakaria

“Zakaria was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to a Muslim family.[3] His father, Rafiq Zakaria, was a politician associated with the Indian National Congress and an Islamic scholar. His mother, Fatima Zakaria, was for a time the editor of the Sunday Times of India.

“Zakaria attended the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University,[2] where he was president of the Yale Political Union, editor-in-chief of the Yale Political Monthly, a member of the Scroll and Key society, and a member of the Party of the Right. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Government from Harvard University in 1993,[2] where he studied under Samuel P. Huntington and Stanley Hoffmann, as well as international relations theorist Robert Keohane.[4]”

There is much more on the Wikipedia site.

“JFK could have just followed General Eisenhower’s policy of not getting into a war there.

Your right JFK could have, followed Eisenhower’s plan in veitname although to tell you the truth I wish he had stuck to Eisenhower’s plan for the bay of pigs instead of compromising it by removing American air support.

If he had done that we probably wouldn’t have had a masacured of our Cuban brothers, and today not only would Cuba be free, but the missile crisis would never have happen. Indeed without that failure the Soviets may not even have had the nerve to put up the Berlin wall in the first place. The USSR may have collapsed a decade early as a result of more free movement of the innovative.

I agree of course JFK was a disaster, in a historic setting that enabled him to do even more damage to the world at large than Obama fortunately can do now in our post Regain, (post cold war) world.

But make no mistake, Obama is even more of a fool than JFK ever was. Obama is even more to committed to even more of the same old failed policy. Obama’s real damaged is domestic and cultural, and that of course is the most significant kind of damage any nation or people ever ever could suffer.

Obama is stupider, but no less anti-American than JFK.

Democrats wrote a law to replace the American voter.

From unionizing government, to Vietnam, to the 1965 Immigration Act, JFK was the end of us.

“However, if there is one man who can take the most credit for the 1965 act, it is John F. Kennedy. Kennedy seems to have inherited the resentment his father Joseph felt as an outsider in Boston’s WASP aristocracy. He voted against the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, and supported various refugee acts throughout the 1950s. In 1958 he wrote a book, A Nation of Immigrants, which attacked the quota system as illogical and without purpose, and the book served as Kennedy’s blueprint for immigration reform after he became president in 1960. In the summer of 1963, Kennedy sent Congress a proposal calling for the elimination of the national origins quota system. He wanted immigrants admitted on the basis of family reunification and needed skills, without regard to national origin. After his assassination in November, his brother Robert took up the cause of immigration reform, calling it JFK’s legacy. In the forward to a revised edition of A Nation of Immigrants, issued in 1964 to gain support for the new law, he wrote, “I know of no cause which President Kennedy championed more warmly than the improvement of our immigration policies.” Sold as a memorial to JFK, there was very little opposition to what became known as the Immigration Act of 1965.”
