The budget committee of Delaware's Democratic-controlled General Assembly "voted Thursday to withhold $3 million from the University of Delaware in an attempt to force the university's hand on a controversial plan to build a power plant and data center on the former Chrysler site in Newark," reports the Wilmington News Journal here.

"The money, earmarked for UD operations, was suddenly removed and parked in a contingency fund at the end of budget hearings on Thursday. Lawmakers on the Joint Finance Committee voted unanimously in favor of the move.

As one of the comments says, this is liberal vs. liberal.

But I find myself siding with the politicians this time. Because the academic rebellion is against the proposal to build a natural gas power plant, and I’m pretty sure the area needs it, after all the old plants were closed down by the greenies.

Of course the nugget the university needs to know is that when there is no electricity for the masses, liberal islands like state university systems will still have their own power generation capabilities.

When the public has had enough of this bunch and begins to bite back, they will cut off healthcare, utilities, food supplies, and transportation, until they submit to the central planning stasi.

Government planning knows this and is out in front. They need to count on government employees from schools, federal, state, and local governments. That's who all that ammunition is for they have been buying up. Instead of guns or butter, it will be electricity and food if you shoot (fill in the blank).

Good analysis. If you read the article you will see that it is a very small minority of professors that oppose the project. Personally, I find it hard to side with the Dem politicians because I know it will turn into a disaster and a cash cow for Democrats.

FYI Newark, Delaware once had a bustling Chrysler plant.

But if the Republican House tried to use withholding of funds to garner a certain outcome....
