Michelle Obama's Crazy, Embarrassing Potato Manifesto
American Thinker ^ | May 31, 2014 | By Susan D. Harris

It was eleven o’clock at night and the lady in front of me in the supermarket line was buying jars of baby food and bottles of Pedialyte. The cashier pulled some of the jars aside and told the lady they weren’t covered under the WIC program. “But you didn’t have the ones I can buy, the shelf is empty. I can’t buy the other ones because he won’t eat them,” the customer said.

“I’m sorry, maybe if you call WIC you can get permission to buy these, but I can’t do anything about it,” the cashier responded.

-snip-

So when I began reading Michelle Obama’s “potato manifesto” in the New York Times yesterday, I found myself sputtering and stammering again; but there was nothing quiet about my anger. “Institute of Medicine be damned!” I grumbled. “Why is Michelle Obama writing an opinion piece on white potatoes? Stay out of our lives! Stay out of our children’s lives!”

Exactly, the same way government healthcare will mean the government gets to decide what kind of treatment you can and can’t get.

You can’t get the government out of your life if you’re depending on them to give you stuff.

Oh, that’s ok. Sorry if I was snarky. Hope the Percocet helps whatever hurts!

It’s never about the potato; it’s about control of the food supply, right?

I think it's more about knowing what's best for us, the ignorant masses.

If she knows what's best for us, why would, or should, we resist her?

Think about that for a minute. She can't think of a reason why she shouldn't be commanding all children to eat her specified diet.

The arrogance is kinda, well, breathtaking.

This article is a real eye opener for me. Thankfully I can buy what I want and what I need because I have dietary restrictions too.

Sadly, she’s an idiot and an arrogant idiot at that. I still don’t know why anyone would focus on the perfect potato - filled with potassium and God know what other delights in its skin...rubbed with a little olive oil and salt and pepper. I need to lie down...

I, too, at this point, can buy what I want when I want it. But I worry about the future thanks to these evil people. And I don’t see Republicans in Washington even aware that there is a problem in the culture!

Getting free stuff from the government means that the government chooses what you get or don’t get.

I was alarmed that this was the first comment along that line of thought in this thread... you said the same thing I was about to.

I used to be able to get chicken breast on sale for $0.99/lb. at Shoprite in NJ... 3 years ago. In NW PA, grocery store prices are outrageous.

My boss said I should go on an Atkins-style diet. She said, “No bread, no potatoes, no pasta, no rice. In other words, `white is not right’.”

I said “Oh, isn’t that what they call the Al Sharpton Diet?”

She was not amused.......

My guess is the potato farmers done dissed them somehow. Didn’t contribute enough to the Obama retirement fund.

I once bought some steaks that were about a day from their “sell by” date, manager’s-specials.

Thank God for A-1 sauce.

You have to understand that there are people who are falling out of the economy due to Obama. This is not about lazy people - it’s about job loss. It’s really happening to some people. And some of those people are God-fearing, decent conservatives.

It’s very clear why The First Tub of Lard opposes potatoes. She and the rest of the Progressive-Liberal fat cats should be able to dictate food policy, she believes. So she’s going to take her six-axe-handle backside, plop on some unfortunate chair, and crow her opinions.
