Oh, I agree. The Christian churches no longer preach Christ and barely even mention God. They blither on about the environment, the “poor,” or any meaningless thing you could get at your local Democratic party headquarters.

And we wonder why people go to the Krishnas?

The thing that gets me, is that it seems the main conspirators were his two aides. They practically murdered a whole bunch of people (an infant that was poisoned barely survived) threatened an entire community - it takes a particular brand of evil to pour typhoid bacteria on a salad bar knowing all kinds of people will eat it - infirm, children, etc. Salmonella gives you bloody diarrhea, makes you feel like you are going to die.

Now, note this final sentence from the wiki article, which falls under the I guess the Swiss are even dumber than we are category sometimes:

The 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack was the food poisoning of 751 individuals in The Dalles, Oregon, United States, through the deliberate contamination of salad bars at ten local restaurants with salmonella....

On July 22, 1986, both women entered Alford pleas for the salmonella poisoning and the other charges, and received sentences ranging from three to twenty years, to be served concurrently. Sheela received 20 years for the attempted murder of Rajneesh’s physician, twenty years for first-degree assault in the poisoning of Judge Hulse, ten years for second-degree assault in the poisoning of Commissioner Matthews, four and a half years for her role in the salmonella poisoning, four and a half years for the wiretapping conspiracy, and five years’ probation for immigration fraud; Puja received fifteen, fifteen, seven and a half, and four and a half years, respectively, for her role in the first four of these crimes, as well as three years’ probation for the wiretapping conspiracy.

BOTH SHEELA AND PUJA WERE RELEASED ON PAROLE EARLY FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR, AFTER SERVING TWENTY-NINE MONTHS IN A MINIMUM SECURITY PRISON. SHEELA’S GREEN CARD WAS REVOKED, SHE MOVED TO SWITZERLAND AND WENT ON TO RUN TWO NURSING HOMES THERE.

So why worry about being convicted of crimes at all? All I can say is, these people are darn lucky I am not dictator of OR, because they would NEVER see the light of day again.

Knowing what I know about intestinal problems in folks, I guarantee you at least one of these folks died somewhere down the road, or their guts have never been right again. Not to mention that the seven salad bar owners had their businesses shut down - how’s that for death of a dream? That’s a killer for some folks.

No way these ladies went through anything near the pain of their victims.

Sounds like the stabber was a fighter with uncontrolled anger problems. And my guess is that he is an acute schizophrenic.

“Acute schizophrenia is also known as Reactive Schizophrenia or Type I schizophrenia. It is usually manifested quite suddenly, often as a reaction to a significant stressor.

“It is often more amenable to treatment than the chronic form of schizophrenia, (also known as process schizophrenia). Symptoms include psychosis and typically include delusions, hallucinations and thought disorder.

“Acute schizophrenia resembles amphetamine psychosis.”

I asked the cops if I pressed the charges, would we be able to get him into a medical program where he could get a time out? … And they said, no, it’s his first offense. He’ll probably be out in an hour after posting bail. And at that point … I become a target.

Translation: The cops didn't want to do the paperwork.

The response of the community is what small-town Hawaii is.

That is absolutely correct.

Good thing everyone remembers that this is a group of disturbed people who in no way represent the actual teachings of Hinduism.

Because it’s not like disturbed people have ever commited crimes in the name of Christianity before, while others tried to claim they represented actual Christian teachings.

Right?

Oh, and as for the “monkey god” mockery, that’s nothing. I know of a religion who’s members carry around idols of their God being tortured to a bloody death, and who carry out rituals where they claim to be eating his flesh and drinking his blood.

So it’s a good thing that respect for the deeper, more profound meanings of what people could easily mock still prevails, rather than knee-jerk judgments based on ignorance.

Right?
